This alternative browser based on the Mozilla engine has its fair share of pluses, but could use work on other fronts. One of the biggest benefits of SmartFox is you can greatly extend its functionality via numerous plug-ins available on the Web. Users with coding skills can even make their own plug-ins using XML, CSS, JavaScript, and C . Though SmartFox boasts a handy, tabbed interface, the browser doesn't automatically open a new window when you type a URL. To activate tabs, you must open a new one through the File menu item. Although this utility consumes fewer resources than Internet Explorer, it didn't appreciably speed up Web surfing. The built-in pop-up blocker works as well as most dedicated programs and includes a white list for allowing ads from certain sites. The developer claims this browser also can protect you from spyware, but we could never figure out how to access that feature's settings. Though SmartFox doesn't appear to be developed enough to be your only browser, it can't hurt to try this flexible and free program.

Worst firefox add-on, its like a virus you cant remove!

Pros
It turns all your toolbar links into small icons, but this is not as helpful as it sounds. Many icons are repeated and a standard page you saved displays with no icon at all making it useless.
Cons
CANNOT BE REMOVED. Forces you to install other programs like Ask Search Bar which also cannot be removed because it comes with the package.
Summary
Impossible to remove without re-installing your browser makes it the worst firefox add-on i have come across, it goes against the ethos of open source.

It has most of the features Firefox has. It has great speed, pop-up blocker, and tabbed browsing feature. However...
Cons
Smartfox leaves much to be desired. I mean, come on! It's just a cheap imitation of the real thing. Even the name sounds the same! Only get this if you really want to switch from Internet Explorer and can't seem to find that right browser.

Fast, same speed as firefox.

You can't download anything. It just won't appear after you have finished the downlaoding process. The instalation wizard or watever won't appear. Useless. I suggest mozilla firefox. Like every browser is immitating mozilla firefox.

There isn't going to be a Con. I only know Pro! I do not have a large enough vocabulary to express thoroughly how well I love SmartFox 1.8! It is my main browser. Mozilla class with no popups no bothersome advertising, just pure surfin without any hassel and skins galore! <p>I was using Mozilla Firefox until I found SmartFox 1.8

I can't find anythng bad yet! Have been using a long time now. K-Meleon though is going to give Smartfox a run for its' money! <p>Infact, using K-Meleon right now, it is quick and simple!

Summary
You don't know you need "tabbed browsing" until you get used to it, then it's like that wheel on the mouse, you wonder how you lived without it. Then there's the customized buttons "the community" has donated for you to pick from, if memory serves you can even change the moving logo in the right hand corner, microsoft WISHES it would be that simple in explorer. I wont bore you with "details", like it complies with all the web standards, it's smaller, faster & more secure than Internet Explorer. The biggest drawback is you have to download the java machine from Sun Microsystems, by now even that may have changed!

I don't understand the need for a clone of Firefox, since it is being less actively developed than the original. There are supposed to be some additional features in this, but I'm not sure what they are... and the version of Firefox it is based on is several months old.
Mozilla is awesome, but i don't see what they added to it.

I had to put that this is an excellent product because mozilla did a fine job making this browser...Not startplane...You guys could have at least taken the firebird(original name and logo from mozilla's firefox series) out of the top right corner. Download the newest firefox, not this imitation.
