• Great backup software

  Pros

  Easiest backup software I've ever used. Most backup software feels bloated. This one installs quick and is very responsive. Setting up backups is a breeze, and even though it's got a simple interface, the functionality seems to be very powerful. I personally use the straight file copy backup mode (what it calls "Direct File Copy") but the Compress as .ZIP and Compress as .7z modes - both with optional strong password protection are also really cool. I also LOVE the option to run a backup manually anytime direct from the desktop. Backups are quick - though it's obviously only as fast as your computer and disk drives allow it to be.

  Cons

  Not much. It would be nice if there was an indicator telling you how much time was left to finish a backup. But this is more a "nice to have" than something really important. Once you've done a few backups of your data, you begin to learn about how long it takes so it doesn't really matter.

  Summary

  I doubt you'll regret giving this program a try! I've been using it for years to backup my data and it "just works" and works well!

• A very easy and intuitive interface

  Pros

  Simple to use and an uncluttered screen. Appears to be very dependable. I did have a couple questions when I started and the developer was very prompt with a response for me.

  Cons

  Doesn't save deleted files or folders in a separate folder, but than again I've only seen one backup program that does and I've tried many before settling on Safe Data Backup.

  Summary

  Can't go wrong with this absolutely free program.

• Kept crashing while creating backup

  Pros

  Has all the features I wanted, including mirror copies of files and incremental backup.

  Cons

  1. I don't think I was doing it wrong but I found adding folders extremely fiddly. It seems you can't add the source folders in one operation and then select the destination for them all. You have to select a folder one at a time from a tree, select the destination for it, and click OK. Then you have to do the same all over for each and every new folder, adding the destination each time. Also it didn't want me to put them all in one folder in the destination, it advised separate folders for each. 2. If I paused too long while creating my backup, like if I was creating a new folder at the destination (see above) the program would unexpectedly close itself, so I lost what I had added to be backed up and had to start from scratch, even down to naming my backup. After this happened for the 3rd time I'd had enough and I uninstalled it.

  Summary

  If I was experiencing this sort of a problem while creating my backup, who knows what might happen when running it, which is not something I was going to wait to find out.

• Works great - Powerful but easy

  Pros

  Most backup programs require setting lots of options - not so with this one. Easy to use and the optional LZMA or ZIP compression (both optionally password protected with AES 256-bit) is a plus.

  Cons

  As another reviewer mentioned, no detailed scheduler, though for most people that want it run on a schedule, just having the backup run every so many days (1 to 99) at a certain time is probably fine. If you're on Vista or higher, you can actually change the backup (but it will affect all your backups if you have more than 1) to operate on a defined schedule such as certain days of the week by clicking the "Additional Backup Options" then "Schedule settings" and manually typing in something like: "TriggerType:TASK_TRIGGER_WEEKLY TriggerDaysOfWeek:Monday,Friday" each on its own line (no quotes) if you wanted it run say every Monday and Friday each week at the time you specified. All the possible options are detailed in help - actually you can create some extremely detailed schedules (but again, it affects all backups so is only helpful if you only have 1 defined backup).

  Summary

  For free backup software that's also really easy-to-use, it's hard to beat this program.<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Oct 29, 2013<p/>Update: As of v7.3, for Vista or newer OS's, you can now easily schedule your backup(s) on specific days of the week every week or every so many weeks. You can also finetune the backup to run on even more detailed schedules (such as running only on the 15th day of the month etc) using advanced settings.

• Looks good and simple

  Pros

  Nice simple setup. No nagware or tool bars. working well so far...

  Cons

  Scheduler does not have days of the week but you choose every so many days which is ok but not what I'd prefer. No progress bar or percentage done.

  Summary

  Have tried most freeware backup utilities out there and not yet found one that does a simple back up and has a scheduler.
