A decent game for 1997, when it came out, Sid Meyer s real-time-strategy titled Gettysburg Yankee hasn't aged well. Demanding players will disdain its chunky graphics and limited special effects. Even casual gamers will notice the clunky controls and the game's poor pathfinding AI. One good point that gives this oldie an edge over even some of today s titles is the well-made tutorial and the handy hints that appear at the beginning of a battle. The three demo levels provide a taste of combat on the Union and Confederate sides. You need to take care of your soldiers' morale: if they get shot from the rear or come under heavy gunfire, they'll run from the field. If you loved Gettysburg Yankee in 1997, you might enjoy giving it another try. For most people, though, it's little more than a quaint historical curiosity.

Developer's Description

Sid Meier's Gettysburg is a real-time game simulating one of the most dramatic battles in the American Civil War, and possibly one of the most studied battles in wartime history. Its features include 3D-animated soldiers, cannons, cavalries, and generals that move, change formation, fire, retreat, and attack in real time on the accurate, scalable, and rotating 3D view of the Gettysburg battlefield. Other features include an icon-driven command system, four difficulty levels, and the ability to customize the enemy/computer AI. This demo version of the game lets you play three scenarios from the Yankee point of view and includes the full set of tutorials and one full week of multiplayer matches.
