Editors’ Review
ShowReady, from Right On Cue Services, is a rehearsal app built for musical theatre casts and directors. It supplies on-demand access to licensed rehearsal tracks and gives performers control to practice individual parts away from scheduled rehearsals. The app pairs playback with navigation tools and production sync, so cast members can follow conductor scores and receive show edits. Intended for schools, community theatres, and professional productions, it helps maintain production accuracy during independent practice.
Acts as a portable music director for ensemble practice
The app represents vocal lines using virtual MIDI instruments, which makes individual pitches and harmonies easier to hear than guide vocals and gives singers a clear pitch reference when working alone. That representation helps performers isolate inner voices and learn counterpoint without an accompanist present, offering a rehearsal resource that supports sectionals, individual practice, and directed run-throughs outside scheduled rehearsal times.
Access and playback depend on production activation and local downloads
Content is distributed per production via activation codes, and rehearsal materials download to the device for offline use; users cannot import personal MP3 or MIDI files. This access model preserves licensed material integrity and lets performers rehearse where internet access is intermittent, while also tying content availability to a production’s authorization workflow rather than to a personal media library.
Integrates editorial control and conductor materials into the cast workflow
The app connects with production workflows by accepting director-pushed edits and by integrating a digital piano or conductor score so cast members can follow along precisely. Navigation features such as markers, vamps, and event controls support sectional practice and repeated passages. Stage|Tracks compatibility means production-wide changes can propagate to devices, keeping the cast aligned with the director’s decisions.
Best suited to ensemble, educational, and production-driven settings
The tool targets high schools, colleges, community theatres, and professional companies that use Right On Cue Services’ licensed materials. It is praised for facilitating independent practice, though mobile users report mixed experiences: some note helpful functionality while others mention technical glitches and a learning curve around activation. The app reads as a production-grade rehearsal resource rather than a casual music player.
Pros
- Virtual MIDI vocal lines for clearer pitch reference
- Downloaded tracks stored locally for offline rehearsal
- Director push of global edits to all cast devices
- Conductor score integration with markers and event controls
Cons
- Access requires production activation and an access code
- No support for importing personal MP3 or MIDI files
- Some mobile users report technical glitches and a learning curve
Bottom Line
A focused rehearsal companion for production-minded performers
The app is a specialized solution for casts and music directors who need consistent, production-level rehearsal alignment across a company; it supports collective musical decisions and disciplined practice habits. Although its production-bound distribution model limits use with personal audio libraries, that same model enforces licensing and keeps everyone rehearsing from a single authorized source. Recommended for ensembles seeking precise, director-led preparation.
