ServiceTool, developed by BAXI, is an Android app that turns a mobile device into a diagnostic interface for heating systems. It connects wirelessly to appliances using a Bluetooth hardware interface to read operational data and fault codes in real time. The app provides on-device diagnostic readouts, parameter access, and data logging alongside technical documentation and firmware update capability. Designed for qualified heating engineers and authorized service technicians, it reduces time spent on-site by centralizing troubleshooting tasks.

Top Recommended Alternative

The app provides direct manufacturer-level diagnostic access across BDR Thermea brands, supporting Baxi, Remeha, De Dietrich, and Brötje appliances that expose the required communication interface. Built by Baxi as part of the BDR Thermea Group, the tool standardizes brand-specific procedures so technicians can use a single mobile interface during repairs and installations, helping to align service steps with official manufacturer guidance.

What is the app used for in manufacturer servicing?

What can you accomplish on site with the app?

Field workflows center on guided commissioning sequences that walk technicians through setup checks and acceptance criteria, plus read-and-write access to internal appliance parameters. The app presents fault code histories for diagnosis, captures live sensor readings for time-based troubleshooting, and supports firmware updates where the appliance allows it. These systems reduce ambiguity during commissioning and permit corrective actions without returning to workshop equipment.

Is the app approachable for technicians who arrive on site?

The app targets qualified heating engineers rather than homeowners, so prior technical knowledge is expected. To ease adoption it embeds appliance-specific manuals and documentation inside the mobile interface, which cuts down on paper manuals and separate lookups. Compatibility with Android 5.0 and newer means common business mobile hardware can run the software, but practical use assumes familiarity with boiler parameters and safety procedures.

What connectivity, compatibility, and field reliability considerations matter?

Technical requirements include a Bluetooth-capable smartphone or tablet and the manufacturer’s Smart Service Tool hardware interface to reach appliance diagnostics; some functions such as firmware updates and cloud documentation access may also require internet connectivity. Because the tool focuses on BDR Thermea appliances, it provides deeper, model-specific insight compared with generic third-party diagnostic apps, while trading cross-brand neutrality for manufacturer-aligned detail.

ServiceTool 0/3
  • Pros

    • Manufacturer-level diagnostic access across BDR Thermea brands
    • Guided commissioning wizards reduce on-site setup steps
    • Data logging and firmware update support for in-field troubleshooting
  • Cons

    • Requires proprietary Smart Service Tool hardware to connect
    • Intended for qualified technicians, not homeowners
    • Scope limited to BDR Thermea appliances, not vendor-agnostic

Bottom Line

The app suits teams committed to manufacturer-aligned service processes

The app is a practical option for professional heating engineers who maintain BDR Thermea appliances and follow manufacturer procedures. Service departments with trained staff and manufacturer-aligned spare parts inventories benefit from its focused approach, while independent, multi-brand contractors may find the vendor-specific scope restrictive. Choose it when alignment with Baxi and sister brands is a priority rather than cross-vendor flexibility.

The ServiceTool is an innovative and useful piece of equipment that enables installers to carry out their jobs even more easily, efficiently and effectively.

There are two parts to ServiceTool: the Tool and the App. The Tool and the App can be used for all types of work that might need to be done on a unit, including installation, maintenance and troubleshooting.

The App can also be used without the Tool as a digital reference guide to the device putting a fault indicator and manual at your fingertips. All of this is available on your tablet or smartphone.

The information can be downloaded in the App when the tablet or smartphone is connected to the Internet.

Tool

The Tool is connected to the unit. Once connected, the Smart Service Tool establishes a fast local Wi-Fi connection to your tablet or smartphone, allowing you to get to work straight away. Since the connection is made locally rather than via an external server, there are no security risks and there is no need to use the customer's network.

The Tool is available from wholesalers.

App

Once the Smart Service App has started up, it will automatically identify the type of unit it is connected to and provide an immediate overview of the unit and all the relevant information.

Depending on the type of unit, the Smart Service App can perform the following functions in just a couple of swipes:

The unit's status

The unit's current values

Read out and reset shutdowns

Read out and reset lock-outs

Read out and set unit parameters

Read out and reset counters

Fault indicator (fault tree)

Documentation

Read out and reset service message

Read out and set dF/dU

Minimum system requirements:

Android version 4 or later

Screen size 4" or greater

Disk space for 3 4 MB applications

Available disk space for data in excess of 100MB. This depends on the number of units for which data is downloaded

Minimum 1GB working memory

Minimum screen resolution 480x800 for 4" screen, increasing to 1024x600 for 7" screen

Minimum processor: Dual Core 1.2 GHz
