  Latest version causes major issues with computers connected via WIFI. Downloads won't complete, files are corrupted, and browsing is super slow. Tech support is a total joke.

  Summary

  I've had safeeyes for years, specifically the Mac version. It has never been as good as the PC version and has always had some issues, but with this latest update they have really made it bad and here is why 1. "This Website is blocked because you are not logged in" - this error comes up time after time despite being logged into the program. My response from tech support was that if this problem kept occurring to restart the computer. The problem with that is that it happens about every 5 minutes. That would be a lot of restarts and doesn't solve the problem. 2. Webpages not fully loading - The previous mac version did this occasionally and would quickly be resolved with a reload of the website, but now with this new update it happens constantly. Most webpages with images will not load the images on the first attempt, and will load only some of them after a reload. Further many webpages will load as a "skeleton", as in not with the actual page background and normal structure. Very very annoying. Cnn, cnet, weather channel, they are all affected. Surprisingly this issue doesn't effect facebook. 3. Slow slow slow!!! - I did a quick uninstall of safeeyes, per the recommendation of tech support because of the above mentioned issues, and out of curiosity did some of the same web browsing I normally do (cnn, gmail, Facebook, macworld). Everything loaded at least 10x faster. There were no issues with images loading or with the pages loading incorrectly. Now I reinstalled and the problems persist. 4. Tech support failing - I called tech support because of the above issues and was connected overseas. They used to have native english speakers as their tech support 24/7 and that was awesome. The gentleman I spoke to had no idea how to handle my call. When he asked me for the administrator password, I told him I didn't know it because I wasn't an administrator. He then said "oh that's not a problem, just answer this question and I can give you the administrator password..." Referring to the question clue which 1) Of course I didn't know the answer to because i'm not the administrator and 2) Doesn't that violate the whole concept of having an administrator password that other users don't know? In any case, all he recommended was the uninstall/reinstall which as mentioned above did not work. This seems to be the go to answer for safeeyes - uninstall and reinstall - and every time I've tried that, the problems persist. 5. Doesn't play well with other WiFi - When I bring my laptop to work or coffee shops or hotels, it's always a gamble whether or not safeeyes is going to work. There's really no rhyme or reason to when it works and when it doesn't. Sometimes Safeeyes connects but then a few minutes later it disconnects and I have to restart my computer and start the whole process again. Safeeyes used to be good, but ever since being acquired by McAfee their software and support has gone down the drain. I'm going to start using another internet filter now for my Mac. I hope this review helps anyone even remotely considering Safeeyes for Mac to stay FAR away.   This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />This product worked great for about 1 year 6 months. Then decided to stop working, I have been trying to uninstall this piece of nasty software for 2 days now and will probably end up having to wipe my hard disk and re-install everything. If you are outside of the USA then you would need to pay big bills to use their telephone support, and the email support was very simplistic and unhelpful. Once this software starts to go wrong it is a nightmare to rid of!!!!

• easier to bypass than to uninstall

  This is by far the easiest Internet filter software to bypass. If you sincerely want to keep your kids protected than do not use this filter. When I called up the support line to ask for an explanation they made excuses instead and then hung up. Not worth downloading as it is harder to uninstall than it is to bypass.

• Flawed treatment of "fast user switching"

  does what it says, pretty efficiently, easy user interface

  Big problem though, is its lack of tight integration with apple's user accounts controls. You have to log in separately to SafeEyes, which is a bit of a pain, but ok. Much worse though, if you use "fast user switching" to change from one Apple user account to another, SafeEyes doesn't notice and leaves you logged into SafeEyes as the previous user. So if dad is logged in to the Mac and to SafeEyes, and junior switches to his own Mac account, then he still gets Dad's SafeEyes access. <p>NOT GOOD!!!
