There's nothing particularly wrong with River Past Video Cleaner, but its interface and features left us lukewarm. The converter performed fine in our tests, though its range of capabilities is limited. For instance, Video Cleaner can't convert files into MPEG video format to enable their viewing on VCD and DVD players. The interface simply consists of a file list and a format pane wherein you can choose codec and format settings. The list of videos to convert can include files of different formats. The program requires an external video player to preview files. We did find one minor bug: When browsing for the output directory, you must manually copy and paste its path. Perfectly serviceable, River Past Video Cleaner will satisfy those without sophisticated demands for their video conversions.

for what took 5+ hours on my high end pc to convert a mkv file to mp4 which shouldnt have even lead to a complete re encode of the video portion since i was converting to mp4 which was the format in the mkv...the result was garbage. a pixelated mess with incoherent audio. one of the most useless apps ive tried in a while. and yes i had the mpeg 4 add on installed along with current copy of quicktime and the cccp package.

none. not a single thing. I only gave them 1 star because this system won't allow zero stars.

they sing the praises of Mac all over their site, then send you an MS-DOS file that will only work on a PC. multiple queries to customer service for a Mac version went unanswered, and the subsequent refund requests have been ignored.

Good software, simple to use, nice options.
Cons
River Past appear to have gone out of business, and are no-longer replying to emails (not response in over 6 months). May be surpassed by other applications now. No Dolby / AC3 encoding support.
Summary
I purchased "Video Cleaner" a couple of years ago to help me keep my video file collection in a single format, the software served me well for 18+ months. Now however other tools have surpassed Video Cleaner in areas of performance and features. Meanwhile River Past themselves appear to have ceased trading and have closed the user forum, are no-longer responding to emails and there have been no software updates in about 12 months.
Free trial does not let you do anything worthwhile.

This is a full internet scam, you will receive a link and may receive a passcode but all that will happen is that the software you receive will waste most of your day, and you will be $29.95 worse off.
Summary
I have never managed to get the software to work. I have emailed on 10 different occasions the company RiverPast and they have never responded. Leave well alone and make sure you spread the word if others may be tempted, these companies should not be allowed to exist and should at least be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

My version is 7.2.9. This has never let me down. All conversions has completed successfully, this is nearly professional tool in its reliability.

No cons at all.
Summary
Reliable, versatile, no-nonsense converter- supports really many formats. Well worth the price. You just can't go and compare this to "free tools" because this is so much simplier and easier to use, also this is much more reliable.
No Delivery of Product, No Communication. Horrible.
