There's a flaw that prevents this easy-to-use freeware program from completely hiding folders. Revosoft Cache is one of the most straightforward programs we've come across, and even the lack of a Help file won't prevent any user from understanding its simple operation.

Installation is quick, and you're asked to set a password before the first launch. The compact interface holds only two sections: a pull-down menu to select a drive, and a tree menu to select the folder you want to hide. Once selected, you just have to hit the Hide button. On the right, hidden folders are listed.

To reveal a folder, simply select it and push a button. We were in love with how easy it is to use this program, but a quick scan for the folder using Windows Explorer quickly uncovered a flaw. Searching for the folder in the chosen directory by heading to My Computer, then drilling down through Documents and Settings to get to My Documents, proved that Revosoft Cache was able to hide items. However, if the option to view hidden folders is checked in Windows Explorer, you can still view folders hidden by this app. Worse, some testers found that hidden folders were still visible in the My Documents listing under Desktop.

It's a shame that this freeware software, which was published in 2006, can't completely hide folders from view. We liked how easy it was to use, but can't recommend a program so easily bypassed.

Summary
Downloaded and installed the software correctly on Vista. Proceeded to lock a folder. The software assures me it was locked. Closed, then checked if it was Kosher as said. Hey the folder is still there as though nothing has happened! Tried 3 more time and decided some idle joker is playing a software prank. Ran Revo uninstaller and got rid of this junk of a product. Its not April 1st or I would probably have seen the funny side.

I've been using Revosoft Cashe for a couple of years already, and it hasn't caused me any trouble, ever. It's a handy tool and I use it everytime I leave the house for a significant amount of time. It keeps me feeling assured that my important files and folders will not be messed with.
Cons
It's true, hidden folders can sometimes be accessed through a different program. I hope there is a way around this in any possible future release. Also, sometimes it take a short while for my hidden folders to actually become hidden after I choose to hide them. But they eventually do hide after a minute or so.<p>All in all, it's still a handy, free, tool to keep the kids from screwing with something that may mess up your $800 PC.

A simple little programs that hides any folders you specify. If you have 'Show hidden files and folders' option checked in Folder options then they can be seen (but not over a network). Even when completely hidden you can access your secret folders by simply typing in its pathname (e.g. C:\Hidden). And it's free, which is nice.

I have to give this software 3 stars. It works well for minimum security. There are other freeware software out there that does a better job. It's worth a try.
