• Professional Capabilities, Great utility

  ZaqueoJune 1, 2012

  Pros

Will let you change anything and everything in software such as Flash, Flash projectors and many other windows exe files. Works perfectly in windows 7 64. Althougth it may initially look daunting, its a very easy to use utility and with limitless potential. If you are looking for this you must obviously have some knowledge of resource files and should have no problem with it. It gives your final project a professional customize look.

  Cons

No much of instructions, and not for the weak of programming knowledge. Hate to see it not supported anymore.

  Summary

Don't use if you don't know what you're doing, otherwise you'll end up having to reinstall windows.

Want to change the images, titles, etc. in a program INCLUDING Windows? RESHACKER IS HERE! It can do anything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The best software around for editing a computer! Regedit = to complicated, even for a PC wiz like me.

  Cons

Very risky, but hey, take that risk for editing a computer anyway, right? This software can be used illegally, other then changing things then selling them. You can edit serial key strings and once you are not connected to the web install programs free!

• A good idea but is it safe?

  andreabormanOctober 13, 2011

  Pros

I saw a video on You Tube about using Windows Media Player 9 and 10 on Windows 7 by using this product to edit the files. And WMP 9 and 10 did run on Windows 7 in that video. So I was tempted to get this to run WMP 9,Outlook Express and other Windows XP software that you cannot install or run on Windows 7. But I was not sure how safe it is. For amateurs like me,if you hack the wrong program file you could damage Windows making Windows not working. And then you will have to reinstall Windows. So this is only for those who know what they are doing.

  Cons

Can effect the registry,or damage Windows files, making Windows unusable in hands of inexperienced users. So only for those who know what they are doing, not for amateurs or people with limited experience with computers.

  Summary

I was tempted to use this as I love my Windows XP software and want to run it on Windows 7. And this tool can help you run software that you otherwise could not run on your PC.For example, you can run Microsoft software such as WMP 9,and Outlook express on Windows 7 if you hack the right files to get those apps running. And like most Windows 7 and Windows Vista users,I would love to have my Windows XP software, such as Windows Media player 9 and more running on Windows 7.and this tool called do that for you-BUT only if you know how to use it and what files to edit.Which I don't. So this software is not an option for in experienced or the avaerage computers user. So my advice is-if you are a computer geek-use this-if not then forget this as it is just too risky to edit Windows files. and if you make a mistake, you will have to reinstall Windows. • MALWARE - Verified @ VirusTotal

  smithunwesson69August 8, 2011

  Pros

  Did not install this

  Cons

I'm not one to trust any free application even if it comes from a "reputable" source such as CNET. I diverted this file download to VirusTotal where it was scanned with 43 different antivirus programs. The results are listed below:

  Summary

As I would expect anyone with the slightest bit of common since to do - feel free to verify my claim. This is MALWARE. Results from scan utilizing VirusTotal.com: Comodo - Heur.Suspicious DrWeb - Adware.Zugo.38 Jiangmin - Trojan/JmGeneric.bmo Rising - Suspicious Symantec - WS.Reputation.1

• Resource Hacker is a great tool

  William_BerzoffOctober 16, 2010

  Pros

It allows you to view and edit files such as exe and dll files. Freeware.

  Cons

  No cons to freeware.

  Summary

Only one thing you should remember when you use this tool is: If the maker of any program used so called obfuscation software to prevent hackers from eh, hacking the program, or injecting malware in it, you shouldn't be able to see anything with Resource Hacker. Obfuscation software changes all coding into unreadable text to prevent just that.

• THE MOST VALUABLE FREEWARE ON MY COMPUTER!

  Jamin80011January 23, 2010

  Pros

This program is excellent at editing applications + DLLs as well as .scr screensavers. Automatically saves a copy of the original file (Automatic CYA)

  Cons

Took a little while to learn, version info will not update with XP SP3. Could use some extra filetype compatibility

  Summary

Its a quite valuable program, I have associated my DLL files with Reshacker by default. Play with it a bit until you get the hang of it. Like I said it saves the original files automatically, so you can't do too much harm with the right files.
