Rename for Mac locates and labels files quickly on your system. Its additional features for searching files makes it a good program for many users.

Rename for Mac installs easily and starts up into a rather basic interface. Most will be able to discern its main functions without too much trial and error. A row of check boxes on the left side allows the user to select options for operations, including extensions, prefixes, and suffixes, among others. To the right of each of the checkboxes are areas where text can be entered. For example, next to the find function, user can enter the text to look for and its replacement. In the bottom of the window, a list of selected files appears where the change can be previewed and confirmed before implementing. The labels and boxes do not have obvious functions, which could make a new user's time learning the program difficult. Additionally, once we clicked on the "Add Files" option we noticed that some of the buttons were not labeled in English, but in Dutch. The search and replace functions did work quickly during testing, returning the proper names as entered.

Rename for Mac performs its functions well with only a few issues along the way. If you don't mind figuring it out on your own and have lots of files to rename, this is a decent choice.

Pros
This is the best rename program I have found for the Mac and it's FREE! I change the extension on all my audio books files from m4a to m4b. It's so easy. As long as I don't close the program the information stays the same. Then when I drag and drop the files I need to have renamed it updates everything because the title already contains the disk number. I do add a "0" in front on numbers 1-9 just to keep everything l lined up if there are more then 9 disks!I II would give this program a 10 if I could!

Works perfectly. I use to use NameMangler until NameMangler became paid software. Rename is a great.

Nothing except perhaps a cosmetic upgrade to look flashier, but that's not too important.

Pros
It took very little effort to figure out how to set it up for the naming convention for document .pdf files at my job in plate imaging for web press. Every publication I work with has multiple .pdf files associated with it. This app renamed the files when I did a test in less than 5 seconds.
Cons
The only thing I would like to see added is the ability to save a naming configuration.
Summary
This application is very useful if your workflow depends on all files having the same name formatting in order to be recognized by a server. If you're just renaming 10 or less files, it would be just as quick to do it manually.
