Editors’ Review
For many gamers and those looking for a comfortable, precise pointing device, Razer makes the mice and keyboards of choice. Part of the popularity comes from Razer Synapse, the company's software that lets you customize your Razer peripherals, storing your setting in the cloud.
Pros
Detailed customization: Synapse is Razer's customization and configuration tool for the company's peripherals, letting you rebind controls and assign macros to a Razer mouse or keyboard.
Multiple profiles in the cloud: Save any number of profiles in the cloud, each configured with specific keybindings and macros for wherever you use your Razer peripherals, from working at home to multiplayer events over a LAN.
Macros: With Synapse, you can assign macros to keys or buttons. You can record macros, save them, and then assign them to any programmable Razer peripheral key or button.
Cons
Less effective off Wi-Fi: Because Synapse stores information in the cloud, Razer peripherals can behave erratically when not connected to the cloud via Wi-Fi. An offline mode, however, allows you to download settings to your local machine.
Lacks heatmaps and stats: On Windows, you can track gameplay stats -- including game time -- and view heatmaps of mouse movements and clicks. Unfortunately, Razer hasn't released a Mac version of heatmaps and stats yet, although it says it is in the works.
Bottom Line
Razer's Synapse configuration tool lets you create profiles for your Razer peripherals, assigning keybinding and macros endlessly. Unfortunately, a few of the features open to Windows users aren't available on the Mac.
