Printer drivers for photos & DTP with color profiles & RIP.
PrintFab is a new printer driver suite with dynamic color profiles and RIP functionality. It is designed to break the limits of standard printer drivers - especially for printing digital photos and DTP. The innovative dynamic PrintFab color profiles ensure full control over color mixture and ink consumption combined with perfect print quality on any kind of paper. PrintFab also supports photo paper from other manufacturers, e.g. Kodak and Ilford. Digital photos can be printed realistic, more colorful and brilliant or in economy mode. PrintFab Pro offers even a CMYK proof mode for prepress. The intelligent ink saving system reduces ink consumption by 25-50% without a noticeable loss in print quality. PrintFab counts every drop of ink and puts the user into control over ink consumption - ink usage can be balanced versus print quality. To get the most out of any printer ZEDOnet additionally offers a cost effective color profiling service that creates color profiles specifically for your printer, paper and ink. (EUR 19.95 per color profile). PrintFab Home costs EUR 49. PrintFab Pro is EUR 69 including one free individual PrintFab color profile.

Pricey, but worth it if you need it.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />I confess to not having really delved into Print Fab's color and ink management tools very much. However as others have pointed out, it's the only reliable way to get network printing out of many printers. Case in point: with Canon's buggy driver for my i960, printing over an Airport Extreme base station regularly stalled out, for no apparent reason (well documented on the Apple support forums). Under Print Fab, wireless printing to the AE is flawless.
Yep, its good!

A bit of stuffing around at first.
Much better fine adjustment of print output than the standard one.
Worth the money.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />If you have a Canon USB printer that you want to network, this little gem is essential. Many manufacturers do not provide "network drivers" for their printers (Canon is one), and unless Gimp-Print (nee Gutenprint) supports your EXACT printer, you are out of luck. Print-Fab will allow you to use almost any USB printer with a standard "printer server" (wired or wireless) that you can add to your network.
The features of this program go far beyond its networking capabilities, and graphics experts will tell you how these drivers will give you much better color rendition than the stock drivers. I'm not sophisticated enough to tell, frankly. But I do like the control it gives me over ink usage, giving me great-looking prints with less overall ink.
The developer is EXTREMELY responsive to questions or concerns. At about $65 US, it is a little pricey (more than the cost of the print server), but you get a lot more than just a driver. It's been well worth the cost.

Not only does it provide better control on colour behaviour, not only can I use my own papers and inks (after colour calibration), this also provides the full functionality over ethernet.
For instance, I use an old deskjet 970Cxi with duplex unit, and only these drivers provided me this possibility over ethernet using an belkin ethernet print server.
Great product.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />PrintFab provides a powerful alternative driver and toolbox for inkjet printers. It has a lot of additional controls compared with Epson (my printer) drivers, and it has better documentation and colour profile support than GimpPrint. It has a wider range of toolbox options for servicing printers than the Epson standard drivers. PrintFab supports current printers (Canon, HP Epson and Brother), as well as legacy printers that have never been properly supported in OSX. The software can also print out profile measurement prints, which you send to PrintFab and get back a profile by email. This is great if you are using non standard paper or ink combinations. First profile is free, subsequently $25. Excellent product, and good value.
