POSTAL 2 is a first-person open-world action game that follows the activities of the Postal Dude across a week of errands in a fictional Arizona town. You can move through a non-linear world, interact with a large population of NPCs, and complete daily objectives in any order. The game tracks player actions and allows both combat-focused and non-violent approaches to progression. 

POSTAL 2’s extensive weapon arsenal includes conventional firearms, melee tools, explosive devices, and unconventional items that interact with characters and the environment. The game also includes mod support, workshop integration, and scenario content spanning multiple connected story campaigns.

POSTAL 2’s daily objectives remain active while the town continues operating independently around the player. Characters follow routines, react to crimes, respond to threats, and interact with one another without scripted sequences directing every encounter. The Aggressive vs. Passive gameplay can be completed through confrontation or by avoiding conflict entirely. Even when violence is not initiated by you, NPC reactions and random events can alter situations and create unexpected outcomes.

Fight or flight

The game world contains shops, public buildings, neighborhoods, industrial areas, and hidden locations connected through continuous exploration. Objectives rarely require a fixed route, allowing different paths between destinations. The Survival Mode system continues to populate areas with hostile reactions and environmental threats regardless of player behavior. Some errands involve mandatory scripted events, limiting complete freedom during specific story segments. Holiday-themed events and environmental variations also appear throughout the game's setting.

Combat incorporates firearms, melee equipment, explosives, animals, and interactive environmental elements. The expanded dismemberment feature applies throughout the main campaign, while additional weapons from the Eternal Damnation content increase combat variety. NPCs feature larger voice pools, extra animations, and broader behavioral responses during encounters. However, the visual presentation remains dated compared to modern releases, and character interactions often prioritize exaggerated satire over realism.

Days of mayhem

POSTAL 2 combines open-world exploration, errand-based progression, reactive NPC behavior, combat systems, and modding functionality within a connected week-long campaign. The game supports violent and non-violent approaches while maintaining persistent world activity and unscripted encounters. Its strongest features include non-linear objectives, extensive weapon interactions, and workshop-supported modifications. Limitations include certain story events that restrict complete freedom and a visual presentation that reflects the game's older technology and stylized satire.
