Fast, frugal, full-featured and fun. Best darn word processor in the Windows world, period.

It is unfortunate that some reviewers are quick to denigrate an "excellent" piece of software (as rated by Download.com's editors, no less, in their review of PolyEdit Lite, the free version, which see), simply because they could not get the first thing they tried to work. Superficial judgments do no service to the readers of these user reviews. Replacing the default font for documents does work as promised, indeed. I am not the only one certifying this. Keblensis, in his review of PolyEdit Lite version 5.4 (which see), states it plainly: "The default Courier 10 font is easily changed (Edit/Options)." You then have to open or double-click "General" and click on "Default Font", but this is obvious by the "+" symbol plainly shown in the options tree. Fact is, PolyEdit kicks wicked in the personal word processor category, and some folks don't seem to like that. I mean, it's disk footprint when installed is a mere 3.55 MB. Compare that to WordPad's 4.37 MB (excluding dll and mui miscellanea!), even though WP is totally blown out of the water by the full-featured PolyEdit. Even Jarte, PolyEdit's closest contender, weighs in at a hefty 12.2 MB, installed. No contest. Do yourself a favor and check out PolyEdit for yourself. It's got a 30-day trail offer. (And PolyEdit Lite is free.) Beware of suspicious negative reviews that may keep you from finding this gold nugget.

Pros
Starts quickly. Nice looking interface. Multiple tabbed documents. Lots of useful features.
Cons
A basic thing for a program is to suit the user. Replacing the default font for documents doesn't work as promised.
Summary
I tried the program, but was quickly dissapointed. Still needes a lot of work.
