Poladroid beta is a fun photo-altering application that allows users to transform any picture into a virtual Polaroid. This free program is straightforward and easy to use.

Once you open Poladroid, a picture of a Polaroid camera will show up on your desktop. To start converting your pictures into retro gems, drag and drop any JPEG file onto the Poladroid icon. The loading time for the application is a bit slow, but at least the sound effects are "realistic." Poladroid even develops the film in front of you; watch your picture become more and more visible until it is fully developed. Poladroid lacks the ability to convert file types other than JPEG.

Clicking on the application's round blue button will open a list of options: a convert link (if you do not feel like dragging and dropping), an option to bring all Poladroid windows to the front, a link to post images to Flickr, and the Settings tab.

Poladroid images are saved to your My Pictures folder by default, but users can change this default folder in the Settings tab. Here you can also choose different photo options, such as a blur effect and the strength of the vignette effect. You can also toggle sound effects, choose how files open after processing, and the thumbnail rotation angle.

If you are in the mood for vintage, Poladroid is a playful and simple photo app that will tickle your nostalgia.

Crashed my macbook on first use

Pros
I liked the idea - seemed like an easy way to create polaroid-style images from existing photos. Would be useful for a different creative edge to presentations.
Cons
I installed it on a MacBook Pro and used it but it completely froze the computer. No trackpad response, no keyboard response. Not even Apple + Option +Escape. I won't be using it again.

When you start this app., instead of opening a normal window, a goofy cartoonish image of a vintage Polaroid camera appears on screen. You simply drag and drop a photo onto the camera, you will hear a sound effect of a camera snapping the picture and a motor ejecting it, then a small rendition of a Polaroid picture appears.... at first it is solid brown, but it gradually fades into the real image. -- Now for the bad parts, it seems to take forever for the photo to fully develop...I realize this was done to be realistic, but in todays world it can be a bit frustrating. The settings dialog box should have a way to adjust the "development time". The BIG problem is.... no matter what size photo you drop into the application, it always zooms in to only a small portion of the original photo and the rest is cropped out....there is no way to adjust this in the settings menu, therefore, this app. will be almost useless for most users. There are a number of free photo apps. that feature this same effect, but WITH the proper parameter adjustments that this one lacks. I cannot recommend this app. unless you just want to hear the sound effect and spend 5 minutes watching a poorly framed and cropped image slowly fade in.

Summary
I really this program and had fun testing it on about half a dozen photos. I stopped using because A2 anti-malware said it had an email worm embedded in the .exe ? Avast and Malwarebytes said file was Clean / Safe? I submitted to A2 as a false positive and quarantined just to be safe. Looking forward to more samples. A batch options so I could convert more then one photo at a time would be nice. Wish list item not a complaint. Very nice software!
