PhotoDesk for Mac

PhotoDesk for Mac gives you access to your Instagram account right from your computer, and lets you manage your images and more. Through this app's intuitive interface, you can see photos grouped in multiple different ways, and you can like or comment on both your images and those other users have added.

Pros

Clear navigation: When you open this app, you'll see photos displayed in the main large window of the interface, and a Navigation Bar along the left-hand side that lets you move between different categories of photos. For instance, you can view your Feed, see what's Popular right now, Liked Pictures, My Pictures, and more. You can also specify whether you want the photos to be displayed in a 3x3 grid, and 2x2 grid, or a list.

Keyboard shortcuts: There are some helpful keyboard shortcuts included in this program that let you quickly add comments to photos and perform some other common functions without having to rely on the mouse for everything. Using these, you can open the image detail, like an image, and even add a comment with just a few keystrokes.

Cons

Some bugs: There were times during testing that we encountered a variety of problems including flashing profile pictures when viewing the list of people who had liked a particular image. We also received multiple notifications about exceeding the maximum number of requests allowed per hour, which seems to be about 5,000, when we hadn't made any requests at all, but these issues did not arise every time we opened the program.

Bottom Line

PhotoDesk is a nice alternative way to access and manage your Instagram account. Although there are a few bugs, it's not without some significant advantages, as well. The app costs $4.99.

• Improved Secure networking mode, to prevent issues where loading of data sometimes did not complete, or only completed half.
• Slightly improved the speed with which images are being displayed
• Using the "L" shortcut for multiple images now will like those multiple images, if mass operations are active (in the Preferences)
• Added a warning that appears when PhotoDesk is still loading the data for the "follows back" information, because this data has to be loaded calculated first after startup and depending on the amount of followers, this can take some time.
• Changed it so that the feed is not being reloaded when viewing a users profile and going back
• Update the login view to accomodate the new buttons that Instagram displays there
• Folders in the sidebar are not sorted alphabetically
• The loading indicator now better indicates that Photodesk is still loading.
