My Go To App
offerPop6268886- Pros
- Have been using it since January 2011. Works flawlessly.
- Cons
- None at all.
- Summary
- I want Pastor for my IOS.
I use it every day and it has never let me down.
bluefish--2008- Pros
- When my dog killed my computer just 2 days after I had finished my book and 2 days before Christmas,( yes, it can and did happen) Mark actually handled my hysteria and helped me get all my Pastor data back and Pastor up and running in my new Mac Pro. There is good customer service, and then there is just downright kindness and going beyond for another person. Thank you, Mark. I cannot recommend this product enough and I donate every year, now. It is only fair.
- Cons
- I have found none.
- Summary
- Perfect!
Brilliant!!!
darstin21- Pros
- Secure to the hilt! Very well constructed. Your password file is password protected so very little likelihood of intrusion. I have over 100 entries now and there are no problems.
- Cons
- Perhaps it could be integrated with firefox as a password manager - This would be great as an "add-on". I prefer to use standalone as apposed to web based so having standalone with the option of add-on web based would be fantastic!

Good, but needs work

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Biggest shortcoming for me is that the Notes field stops letting me enter data after the 210th character. The box for Notes is big enough to allow 3 or 4 times as many characters, and because it has a scroll bar, one can assume it should accept even more. This ought to be an easy fix, and I hope the publisher does it; otherwise, he isn't going to get as many shareware donations as he deserves.

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
i'm not impressed. this app and its records are completely non-configurable - the Preferences... menu item is even grayed out. there's only one field in each record whose data is obscured from view when the record is open; if a record has several pieces of sensitive information i want displayed as little dots, such as a credit card's account number, its security code, and its expiration date, i have to put all of them in that one field and then use the arrow keys to scroll sideways through the data in order to read it all, which is not an elegant solution. if the field labels don't apply to the information i'm putting into them, i can't change them - i have to kind of guess, each time i open a record, into which field i should put which data (a credit card number, for example, is not a password, a serial number, nor a PIN, but if i want it to be turned into little dots, i have to put it into the "Password, Serial Number, PIN" field). i think i've been spoiled by Safe Place, which lets you create custom record types to your heart's content, each with whatever field labels you want and with as many or as few fields "dotted out" as you want. unfortunately 10.5.5 appears to have busted that app, which is the only reason i'm browsing data-securing apps right now at all. i don't see any mention of what type or strength of encryption this app uses. i would think that if it was at all impressive the author would list it among the app's features. and while it doesn't relate directly to the app, it relates to the developer's sense of design and thought given to the user's experience: the text on his website blends into the background so well as to be almost invisible. it's a chore to read it. if i need help with this app, i'd rather try to find it here or on MacFixIt or something than go strain my eyes trying to read the developer's website. the app may work great for some people, but it's too simplistic for my tastes - it feels like something the developer threw together over a weekend when his other plans fell through - and it's definitely less easy-to-use than it might be. boy, i hope Mere Mortal fixes Safe Place quick.
Great App, but .....

- Summary
- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I fully agree with previous reviewers, the app is great although the INTERFACE is kind of surprising and disturbing. Examples: - the user discovers how to enter a password (including the one generated with the tool provided) only when, after having tried everything, decides to give up and quits the app: this is when the "enter password" dialogue shows up! - now a new, cryptic, mention appears in red when I open the app from my own corresponding Pastor document: "This is a beta release of Pastor! Use it with a copy of your Pastor Document only!". I'm the only user of the app, and there is only one Document attached, did I do something wrong? This somehow "impredictable" behavior has prompted me to create somewhere else a (encrypted) backup file with my data: you never know .... Next time, I may end up asking myself why to use Pastor in the first place.... I wish the developer will keep in mind that TRUST and PREDICTABILITY is good for all apps, but absolutely fundamental for THIS category of apps! You don't lock a door if you have doubts about what it will happen next time you want to open it!
Simple and smart

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I have been using Pastor for a while to keep my personal codes, PIN's and more. The simplicity is what I like about it. The only thing that irritates me a bit is that it is not it is not using Unicode encoding, so various names including my own and names of institutions have to use English alphabet only. And the Notes field is more or less useless for me unless I write in English. Feature request: Unicode encoding Keyboard shortcuts for New Entry, Sort and Lock Ability to change the width of the sidebar

- Summary
- ...App
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I am really impressed with this application. I am currently using CiphSafe, however seeing as there is some uncertainty about whether the developer will update it into a Universal app, I decided to investigate other alternatives for storing my passwords. I tried at least a dozen - including iSafe, KeyMinder, KeyManager, Password Repository, Passwords Plus, Password Wallet, Safe Sphere, Safe Place, Steel, Vault, Wallet, Web Confidential, and info.xhead. Because I often go back and forth between viewing passwords, and either typing them or pasting them into a website -hence, ease of use and simplicity of interface are essential to me. If there are several different fields and buttons to click on, that just creates more of a hassle for me. In other words, more features does not necessarily = better value, in my opinion. I love Pastor's elegant interface with its nice, big text fields for inputting information. Unlike info.xhead, Pastor loads quickly on my 800 mhz Powerbook, and unlike SafePlace, there's no delay between clicking on a item in order to edit it, and waiting for it to load. If possible, I would love to see the following features implemented in a future version of Pastor: *Ability to view passwords as text, not bullet points *Ability to reorder items in the toolbar *Automatic back-ups to a different location *Clicking on Pastor icon = loading my default file of choice. Currently, you can place the icon of your Pastor file on the right-hand side of the Dock where files and folders are stored. At the same time however, I have my Pastor icon located on the far left, where I keep all system utility icons located. I have a finite amount of Dock space, so to have the feature of a default file to load would be greatly appreciated. *Last but not least, I hope the developer plans on releasing Pastor as a universal app sometime soon. Pastor is donationware - which is another advantage it has over other applications. With iSafe, I only had the option of testing the free, lite version with all the important features missing. Their website did have a side-by-side comparison of all the features between the Lite and Pro versions - but seriously, if I'm going to pay for an application, I think I should be able to test it, fully-featured, for at least a few days. In addition, Pastor is not nagware - unlike Passwords Plus, I was able to try it without the distraction of annoying pop-up dialog boxes reminding me that I had X number of days remaining until the trial expired. This is a great app - I heartily recommend it above all the others!
Simple and useful
