Editors’ Review
Password Repository for Mac gives you a place to store your log-in information for all kinds of sites while keeping it protected by a master password. With this tool, you'll never have to worry about forgetting your passwords again, and you can quickly access any of your log-ins anytime.
Pros
Master password: To make sure no one can access all of the sensitive information you have stored in this app, you can create a Master Password to protect it. While this is a common feature of most password management apps, this one lets you take security even further by allowing you to use a phrase or sentence rather than just a string of characters. This can make your Master Password both easier to remember for you and harder for someone else to guess.
Notes and categories: When you create entries for each of your accounts, you can also organize them into categories, so you can find them quickly later on. You can add notes to each account with any information you like. This section could be useful for recording security questions and answers or other important log-in and account details.
Cons
No recovery: If you do forget your Master Password, there's no way to get back into your document and recover the data stored there. You'll just have to start all over again and create a new one from scratch.
No automatic log-in: Unlike many password managers out there, Password Repository only stores log-in information. It does not offer any type of automatic log-in feature, so you'll still have to enter your passwords, yourself, every time you access a site.
Bottom Line
If you're looking for a basic password manager, this may be a good option for you, although we prefer programs that also let you insert the information it stores into online log-in pages. Password Repository does have a nice interface with convenient navigation and easy access to your stored data. You can try this app for free to see if you want to purchase a full version for $30. The trial version does not support the Random Password Generator feature that is present in the full version.
Editors' note: This is a review of the trial version of Password Repository for Mac 3.2.
