• PageFour is awesome, finally something that puts all my ideas in one place.

  Pros

  Pagefour's design is really easy to use and it give's me what *I* want. I could care less about making spreadsheets but when it comes to gathering ideas in one spot without constantly opening and closing 50 different files (Instantly, not having to go searching through my hard drive) Pagefour definately trumps any other.

  Pros

  PageFour is a great writing application for anyone who wants a small program for their notebook or home computer. It isn't a full featured word processing application like Word or the free-ware Open Office, but that makes it perfect for writing on my laptop. It opens fast (about 5 seconds on my win xp) and it has a notebook arrangement and a simple interface that I like. <p> <p>PageFour still has basic processing capabilities like spell check, thesaurus, font choices, bulleted or numbered lists, and paragraph justification options, but no graphs or charts. It does have a handy snapshot feature that helps keep track of plotlines or other revisions. <p> <p>Good program if you're looking to concentrate on writing rather than word processing.

• Best tool for writers!

  Pros

  Very easy to use. Very intuative. Excellent back up features. Not very expensive. Developer offers good customer service. Notebooks and pages work wonderfully as well as the tabbed pages at the bottom. Ideas, notes are just a mouse click away. Easy to drag and drop from the main window onto another page if you write that brilliant piece of dialogue but realize you want it later in the story. Of course you don't want to forget it. Just cut and paste it into your ideas page and it will be waiting for you. Shows the developer put a lot of thought into the application and the end user experience.

  Cons

  The only thing I can say is the transfering of files to another computer isn't as easy as I would like. Seems you have to do each file manually and they don't import with the same title. I wish it had auto sync so if you start a project on your desktop but keep writing on your laptop, that the application would know its the same story and sync the new content on both. BUT, and this is a big but, it could be me and I've not explored all of the features yet to see if there is a way to do this.

• A fabulous tool for serious writers

  Pros

  As a professional writer (more than 200 published articles, two books, and a mystery novel in the works), I'm very, VERY picky about my tools. It's essential to me that my tools help me get my work done and then, having done so, get out of my way and let me work. Pretty ribbonesque toolbars that change based on what the program's developer thinks I want to be doing don't cut it. (Buh-bye, Word 2007.) Bloatware that drags my PC down into the dirt has no place on my hard drive. (Earth to WordPerfect? Umm, no. Bye now.) <p> <p>And then, there's PageFour. All the tools I need, including a folder/file management system that lets me actually find what I need, when I need it, and a lean, clean interface that lets me focus on what actually pays the bills: getting the words down on the page. No fuss, no hassles, just a good clean tool that does what I need and does it well. And the back-end file storage uses standard RTF files, so there's no risk of your data being held hostage the next time a big software company started by a nerdy guy named Bill decides to change file formats on you. <p> <p>Darren, the developer of PageFour, has been nothing but responsive to my requests for new features (one of which has already appeared in beta version 1.53 of the app.) He's been, in fact, a whole lot more responsive than a lot of software vendors would be, especially given the relatively low price and generous demo terms afforded to his product. <p> <p>If you're serious about writing, if eye candy is less important to you than putting fingers to keyboard and actually cranking out the words, PageFour is definitely worth a serious look. You can spend a lot more money to get something that does the job a lot less well. But why?

• A fantastic application if you want to write not faff!

  Pros

  One of the best features of PageFour is its sublime simplicity. It is clutter-free and easy to use - I can write without endless distractions and fiddling or wondering if I should include a pie chart "because I can". <p> <p>The wordprocessor is perfect - all the functionality I need, but it was the Notebooks that really swung it for me. I am using PageFour for all my writing - a novel in progress, a journal, notes, etc. Having everything in one place is invaluable. <p> <p>Oh - and in case I haven't raved enough - the Print Templates are fantastic too!

  Cons

  The only downside for me was that PageFour doesn't run on a MAC. I can understand why - it's a lot of work. However, I liked PageFour so much that it proved the deciding factor in upgrading to a new MacBook with dual boot for Windows - problem solved! Kind of an expensive approach but I plan on using the application for a long time to come so it was worth it.

  Pros

  I find myself using this product for more than just novels -- it's a great system for journalists, too! The interface is elegant and simple (not to mention easy on the eyes), with everything you need and nothing you don't. This software is a massive help in keeping your novel organized.

  Cons

  It's not well known, which is unfortunate -- if it doesn't gain popularity eventually, the author may stop updating it.

• Excellent program for writers

  Pros

  I especially like the notebook feature of this program. I am able to easily create notes that correlate to the project I am working on, and both the tab and tree format makes it easy to toggle between them and my project. It has spell-check, and word count features, both of which are essential for me. It is attractive, easy to use and highly intuitive. You are able to save as word documents, which really makes it easy to share files. <p> <p>I rarely purchase shareware, but will definitely be purchasing this one. The price is very reasonable for what you get.

  Cons

  There is no keyboard shortcut for the wordcount feature, that I know of. That would be very helpful.
