Editors’ Review
Out There is a space-based adventure game that challenges you to explore far-off galaxies by accumulating larger ships and more resources. Along the way, you encounter mysterious alien devices and hostile forces that can threaten your ability to complete your mission.
Pros
Interesting story: This app features an intriguing storyline that is a bit of a break from a lot of the more common game story lines out there. Your character in the game is an astronaut who awakens from cryonics to discover that he's not where he should have been in orbit of a moon within your home solar system, but much farther out. Your challenge is to survive and explore this uncharted territory where you never know what you'll run into next.
Good graphics and theme: The graphics and visual theme of this game greatly add to the experience of playing. Your character is stranded alone in space, and all of the visual clues you get while playing enhance the feeling of eerie isolation.
Cons
Randomness: A lot of the action in this game seems to be random, and it's difficult to get a sense of where it's all leading. If you're looking for a clear mission path, you're not going to find one while playing this game.
Response bugs: We did encounter some issues with the responsiveness of the game's controls during testing. Buttons sometimes had to be tapped multiple times to accomplish the desired action, and some actions were slow to complete as well.
Bottom Line
Out There offers a nice twist on the astronaut adventure. It gives you plenty of new areas to explore, and if you don't mind the randomness of the action, you can spend a lot of time playing this game. The app costs $3.99, and there are no additional in-app purchases.
