oCam captures and records onscreen images and video and audio. One advantage it offers over other free screen capture utilities is the ability to choose codecs from a toolbar menu. It has a two-part interface, consisting of a main screen and a green-bordered capture area that you can drag to resize and place over the screen area you want to record.
Recording: We could record video and audio or just video. The ability to record audio makes it easy to narrate or annotate onscreen activity, or you can skip the audio and add your own soundtrack later.
Options: Plenty of options make oCam easy to customize. Some examples: Watermarks, Languages, Hotkeys, and Mouse Effect, as well as video settings such as Timelimit. Encoding options include multi-core processing, audio bit rate, and encoder thread count (an experimental feature).
External codecs: In addition to oCam's built-in codecs, you can specify external codecs, including a page of codecs recommended by the developer.
Documentation: Onscreen documentation seems machine-translated, or partly so, and barely intelligible in places. The ads by Google take up a lot of screen space and get in the way of the documentation, too.
Missing window: After closing oCam, the screen capture window disappeared. Clicking Capture produced an awkward error message: "Not found the record target window."
While oCam has some advantages, its balky capture window and nonsensical instructions dampen our enthusiasm. Still, it's worth a try.

Installs malware as part of its 'updates'. In the update installer, it gives you the option of deselecting a box which says "BRTSvc", but doesn't give you any information about what it is. At the very bottom of the massive user agreement, they tell you that BRTSvc is a cryptominer that will max-out your CPU to mine monero for one of their sponsors.
Avoid, unless you like your computer being used to mine cryptocurrency for someone else.
Normally I dont write review. I love this software for its simplicity but powerful capability. It will help you record whatever activities you have on your PC with system sounds &/ microphone. Simple in this case means 'Brilliant'. The software also automatically names the recording for you so once you hit 'Stop' there is no extra work to do. You can also set up hot key to quickly record/pause/stop the recording. Love it. I dont mind the advertisement on the main control panel. I tried many recording softwares (4 free, 2 free to try). The free to try ones have the same recording quality but more complicated video editing feature which I dont need. None of the free software have the same recording quality (sound/video) as this one.
None. Can't think of any.
Thank you the author(s) of oCam to create this wonderful free software. I really appreciate it and highly recommend it.
Records in mp4 format with low file size. Quickly enables you to view and rename recordings in folder. Choice of sound inputs and video codecs to record. You can re-size the record screen by dragging. Quality of recordings is pretty good despite low file size. Can now pause and restart recordings on the fly.
Advertisements appear on the control console and IE is now forced open to show an ad when you close the app. Really annoying and no way to get rid of it.
One of the best screen recorders, especially if you want low file sizes, but spoiled by forced ads.
worked the way it said. Very easy & intuitive. I'm using W7 64bit. Haven't found any malware yet. It recorded every aspect of the test vids including the lags & jerks due to my slow web connection.
Sound was good.
can't find any yet but only run it for 2x 5min youtube vids as a practise run before recording 60min webinar tomorrow night. Instructions on oCam website says there is an OPTIONS section but it doesn't seem to be in the freeware.
I did have a small heart attack when the downloader/installer software from Download.com didn't give me any option to untick any sort of added malware, but none seems to have lodged on my pc.
it records all cursor activity so be careful not to run the cursor across the recording window unless you actually want it to show!
If you don't mind being spied on, this program works well and is easy to use.
See the review by "CPU-MD". They got it right. If you block this program's ability to "phone home" it won't even open. If you decide you don't care be careful to un-check the browser hijacker they try to sneak in right at the end of the installation.
Update basically ruined the program completely. You are now presented with in app ads which where NOT there before and the sound does not work. I've used this on a Windows XP machine and a Win7 now for the last two years and this is the first time I've had to deal with this. I don't like, wait let me correct that, I HATE programs and apps that push ads through the same app or program. I don't use any application that uses those means to make an app free. Its a perfect way to get malware and spyware. Another thing that I noticed with the update installer is that it now changes your home page to something else, even though it does provide a box to un-check and keep the app from changing your home page, it is very small and the average user will likely miss it and be met with a surprise next time they open a browser!
Not what it used to be, not by a LONG shot. I despise applications that shove ads to your face by doing in app ads. I could deal with a little hickup with the updates and I can use other programs in the mean time, I Picked this one because of its ease of use but now I'm done. I'm uninstalling and will look back some time in the distant future to see if its fixed although its unlikely I'll ever use it again.
HOW IS IT a program is developed A YEAR AFTER THE WINDOWS 8 ROLLOUT (And SEVERAL years after the rollout of Windows 7) that some companies & developers STILL don't know that 64 Bit operating systems have THEIR OWN directories for PROGRAM FILES & COMMON FILES & ITS ALL DIFFERENT ???
Is it these people just don't bother to learn ?? Or do they somehow think THE WORLD is THEIR SCIENCE LAB RAT ?? Maybe it's BOTH ???
