Generate random rules-based names for characters for use in role-playing games.
NameMage generates random rules-based names for characters for use in roleplaying games such as Advanced Dungeons and Dragons. Many rules sets are supplied (e.g Dwarven, Orcish, Arthurian, Celtic etc) and its a snap to create your own.
It's very easy to use and there's no hardship at making your own naming rules. I've already made half a dozen new ones! All of the names are in alphabetical order, too, so you know where to look!
Cons
I'd suggest a better copying interface for instant copying, as well as the ability to resize the window.

Great Little Program

Pros
Great program for MMORPG players. Even if you tweak the results a little, as I do. For me it provides inspiration, and I usually change the spelling or combine first names from generation with the last name of another.
<p>
<p>Small file size also is a plus.
Cons
An update with an more modern looking GUI might be nice.

Pros
They even have Barsoomian names! Mr. Burroughs would have loved it, I'm sure!
<p>It has a list of types to choose from and you could spend all dang day getting names from it.
Cons
Sorry, nothing to report here, after all, it doesn't do anything but generate names.

I wish it had a way to print or copy all of the names instead of having to cut and paste the names to a third party text program like notepad. It is just a tad tedious but it does what it says.

Great program. The Programmer obviously is a forgotten realms fan with Drizzt and Zaknafein being in the list :) Of course you don't want to use those names in a MMORPG... It has a recognizable pattern to it, but there are so many to choose from its worth downloading and ignoring negative comments with no constructive criticism. "the names were wierd" on purpose so they give more of a character to your, well, character! Its a simple program so no crashes, Its graphics are perfect for its function, showing names, however it would be nice if the window could be expanded.
Brilliant!

This game is great for just about anything- I'm a roleplayer both in tabletop DnD and in freestyle online games, plus I write stories and this is great for character names for all of them. Whenever I have a block on a name for a character I use this program, and it's perfect for that.
Oh, and the Tolkien names seem very much to resemble the names in Lord of the Rings... it doesn't take hours of thought to put letters together.
