• For an old guy but musical infant, AMAZING software

  Pros

  A few highlights - With a little familiarity you can copy (or write, if you have THAT talent) music very quickly. - You can play the score with a great variety of instruments from 30 to 240 beats. - Anything on the page from individual notes to a complete stave can be easily moved with the mouse - Notes can be changed one octave with a single stroke; from one duration to another with a keypress; have ties and slurs added or removed with one stroke - Text can be appropriately placed - Transposing from one key to another is simple and will transpose the names of guitar chords

  Cons

  As would be expected, the free "evaluation" copy has limits. You cannot play a whole piece in one fluid performance; the program will halt at the end of each line (each stave)and must be restarted for the next one. Also, on the free version, printing includes a box with the phrase "Music Publisher Sample Printout" sprinkled over the printed page (does not show on screen). A purchased copy would not have these limitations.

  Summary

  The evaluation copy is good enough that I'm planning to buy a copy. Probably the upscale version that allows you to input music to the program via scanner. I'm surprised that there is not more excitement and information about this program available via internet search engines.<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Jan 26, 2012<p/>I neglected to mention that I've had the program for several years but only used it occasionally. But now that I'm retired and started taking guitar lessons I have begun to use the software more and more to learn music basics and with which to play along. With heavier use,the "free copy" limitations have become much more annoying.

• Excellent for designing your own music

  Pros

  This product is great. It gives you basically everything you need to write your own music - and it even plays it back to you to show you if you've done a mistake. You can even choose which instrument you want to hear play the tune.

  Cons

  I would have liked to be able to play both staves at once for the Piano. You can hear the piece of music, but if you have 2 staves, one with a treble and one with a bass clef, you can't play it at the same time for Piano. It also has a suprisingly difficult to understand tutorial. I found writing the War of the Worlds theme was easier than writing the tutorial.
