Limited functionality and a miserly trial restriction keep this basic video utility from being anything more than a mediocre option. MPEG Splitter's drab, gray interface is nothing to look at, but it is at least simple to understand. After opening an MPEG clip, you choose whether to chop the file by frame, time, or number of pieces. Unfortunately, this program cannot perform any other video-related tasks, nor can it work with other types of clips. If the demo actually let you split an entire file, this narrow focus might be more forgivable, but the trial version can only output a one-minute clip. Folks who need to occasionally cut up a video might appreciate this application's no-nonsense approach, but many others will want a more powerful and flexible program.

Developer's Description

Split large MPEG files into smaller ones.
MPEG Splitter splits large MPEG files into smaller ones. With the built-in MPEG player, you can preview the file, set the start and end times, and split or cut any section of the file you want. MPEG Splitter also splits equal parts either by size or by time. The program is especially useful for splitting MPEG-1 files from digital video or from digital cameras.
