Mouse without Borders is a prototype that makes you the captain of your computer fleet by allowing you to control up to four computers from a single mouse and keyboard. This means that with Mouse without Borders you can copy text or drag and drop files across computers.

Mouse Without Borders is a Microsoft Garage project by Truong Do. Garage projects are side projects that Microsoft employees like Truong build for fun on their nights and weekends. Mouse Without Borders was designed for people who use many computers in the same room. For example, a laptop or tablet that you take to meetings might sit right alongside the desktop PC in your office.

Just what I was hoping for.. a perfect way to link mouse and keyboard between two desktops with the ability to move files.. and the cherry on the top !! Yes you can copy and paste text..

I have been using for many years and MaxiVista before that... This software works well most of the time.
Cons
Occasionally has jerky movement. I keep getting complaints from Production Studios about the jerkiness.

Pros
Works with Windows 10 (one machine), Windows 8.1 (two machines) and Windows 7 (one machine). Amazing KVM software. I still have the old KVM hardware and will probably keep it as well as there are frequent updates to Windows 10 (Beta) and Mouse without borders, understandably, is not always stable with an evolving operating system. I do like the way the clipboard travels' with the mouse and the keyboard for copy and paste power. Give it a try, you will not regret it.
Cons
I would love to see it work with my NAS (Network Access Storage).

I am still acquainting myself with the functionality and like the ability to arrange the machine icons to meet my configuration of monitors.

Was great to be able to control my two laptops as well as I could.

Broke the SimplePass login ability.
Summary
I loved the software and the ability to control another laptop connected to a large monitor. That was until I discovered it broke my HP SimplePass login software no longer worked properly. When it was installed I could no longer log into my computer using a fingerprint swipe. I removed the program and the fingerprint reader worked once again. I did a system restore to make sure it was really gone. Everything fine until I reinstalled Mouse without borders again and the same thing happened. Another system restore and all is OK. Too bad it did that. If they can fix this problem I would give it a 5 star rating, but until then I will be using two mice and two keyboards.

Pros
It almost never fails which is amazing for KVM software. I would say it has an uptime of 99.9%. It was very easy to install. And I can easily move my laptop to different locations and get it to recognize the new surrounding hardware within seconds. Using cominations of Windows 8, Windows 7, and Vista and it works great with any combination. The clipboard is seamless and shares all data as if it were all coming from the same place.

I have not found one con.
Summary
Have used several other KVM softwares and Mouse Without Borders beats them all! I don't normally take the time to write reviews, but in this case I was so pleased with this software I just had to make it public in case it can help someone else.

Great for sharing mouse and keyboard. I still have separate keyboards & mice in case of stalls or breaks but rarely use them. I use it with 2 XP desktops and a Win 7 laptop Copy text on one PC, paste it into a document on another

Occasional broken connections Stalls when Avast anti-virus is updating

Works with Win 7 & 8 and does exactly what I need. Wish it had Linux & Mac support, but we can't have everything! Lightweight and unobtrusive, I love this program, running two windows PCs on three monitors without any headaches or issues. It seamlessly slides windows between monitors and allows me to use either keyboard or mouse with complete freedom.

Wish it supported Linux & Mac too.
Summary
The best program for sharing mouse and keyboard between multiple windows computers and monitors. Very lightweight, easy to setup and absolutely invisible during operation. Highly recommended if you need to control multiple windows machines from a single station.

Works extremely well on my two Win 7 Pro 64 PCs. It's free, simple and it works beyond my expectations.
Cons
No Linux or other OS cross platform support. Once in a rare while it will mysteriously stop working and need to be relaunched.
