This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />Obviously security is a big issue now-a-days. For the sake of disclosure, I use the free password Firefox add-on LastPass and have for quite some time without incident. Thus I have had no reason to even consider another similar service until now--at least as far as "for-free" services go. That said, Mitto Password Manager Firefox Extension is a new project that does something similar to LastPass. It offers for free a service that is a little "more personal." It offers to protect your most critical data for you--your web passwords. Like all new and unknown offerings, I clicked and visited the developer's site to get a first impression for who they are. What I found was something akin to an infomercial meets one of those Brinks TV commercials. The site is purposefully designed to play on one's fear. This made me uncomfortable right from the start. Mitto's presentation is just a little too slick. The site is designed to manipulate my fear into adopting them as my password vault and manager. I don't need to be "scared" into using Mitto. I, as a potential adopter, bring fear to the table myself. I don't need to be welcomed in with little videos and other frightening images designed to manipulate my fears. Instead, rather, make me feel safe. Make me feel "warm and fuzzy" like I'm coming in from the cold. Humans have for thousands of years relied and survived by following gut instinct and first impressions when it comes to safety. It's innate to us. I just don't get a comfortable feeling with Mitto's scare tactics. They immediately "turned me off." I wish I could quantify this better but I cannot.
