Good in parts. Avoid Publisher 2013 like the plague.
whimangbAugust 8, 2012
Pros
Word: the minimalistic approach, the way the cursor moves, the slightly easier return to previous files/folders. Small things, maybe, but overall a clear improvement. Excel: very small improvement; good for those who have to put data into chart form.
Cons
Publisher. Open a Publisher 2010 file in Publisher 2013. I did it with several and every time 2013 moved a word here and there onto the following line, so that at the end of the piece two or three lines were missing. I produce village newsletters, user manuals, and bios for website display. I can't go back and alter them all (well, I could, but why the **** should I?) and so if someone opens a piece in Publisher 2013, part will be missing. Take a screen shot of a one-page user manual and you're in trouble. Get the idea? The problem lies in the kerning, I think. For some reason my original spacing of words (to avoid hyphenation etc.) hasn't been properly recognized by Publisher 2013. The results, from my point of view, is a disaster.
Summary
Buy Word. Otherwise, unless you're an accountant or the kind of fool who uses a tablet instead of a laptop or a PC, give Office 2013 a miss. If the 'Rate this product' box had worked, I'd have put 'mediocre' in it.
