Sight word mastery is by far the most important key to fluent reading. Once students master sight words, they will be able to read up to 75% of what is printed in almost any piece of literature written at a fifth grade level or below. So, how exactly do teachers and parents help children master sight words?Step 1: Teach Sight Words in ContextWhen children see words used in sentences rather than in isolation, they are more likely to remember them because they develop an understanding of the words meaning. Sentence based instruction is an extremely effective method for helping children learn sight words.Step 2: Teach Sight Words Through RepetitionChildren do not learn new sight words by being exposed to them only once. Repetition is key to sight word acquisition. Our app is specially designed to maximize word exposeure. Answers to our questions are chosen from a group of same level sight words. When the answer choice is made, the student must decide between four sight word options. It is our philosophy that to learn what something is, you have to learn what it isnt! In choosing the answer, each possible answer word must be read and a decision must be made.Each Matering Sight Words app contains 95 fill in the blank sentences followed by 4 possible answers.
