  Pros

  Mars Notebook is a good example of a piece of software that does one particular task, and seems to provide just the right amount of features to do it well. Its main function is to allow users to create notes within a tree layout work space. Each note page can be individually customised enough to make notes stand out - with page background colours, tables, and images. There are a number of icons and font styles that can be applied to nodes, and a number of other features which are quite easy to find because of the easy to use layout. At the same time it feels there are not too many features that you are getting lost in menus. Giving the product the feel of being able to get the job done without getting in your way. + Easy to use. + Good selection of features.

  Cons

  The free version is quite limited, and although there is no limit on how long you can try the product, what you can do is limited enough that to get real usage you will probably have to purchase. This would be fine, other than two annoyances. Firstly the price keeps increasing. From $15 in the program, to $17 on the website, which then increases again on checkout (when tax is added). Then there is the worse of the two annoyances. This program is provided free of charge as long as you download the Russian language version. This might not be an issue to some, and to them people I would probably recommend giving this product a try. However for me I find that such linguistic discrimination is unfair, and I find it hard to justify purchasing a product from someone discriminating against me for the language I use. - Author appears to be prejudice to non Russians. - Price keeps increasing as you progress through purchase steps.

  Summary

  Overall the software feels like a good choice for the task of note management. However at the same time it is very hard to recommend this product for the reasons mentioned above. If this is the type of product you are looking for and you do not mind the authors attitude towards foreign customers, then give it a try. It is quite sad that what should be a higher rated product is reduced for me to a one star rating because of such a negative, maybe even prejudice attitude from the author.
