Developer’s Description

Convert existing recordings to bookmarking iPod files.

MarkAble is designed for podcast or audiobook listeners who own an Apple iPod, or who use iTunes to listen to such books. Audiobook files bought from the iTunes Music Store or from Audible.com are 'bookmarking' - that is, the iPod (or iTunes) remembers the point of the book where you were up to, and resumes from there when you start listening again. This, of course, is vital.

However, there are many other sources of audiobooks. Such books may be in a variety of different formats such as MP3 files (for example, from podcasts, www.audiobooksforfree.com or www.telltaleweekly.com), or audio CDs or tapes you may have bought. Getting these into a format which is bookmarking like the books from Audible.com is a tedious and difficult process - or at least, it has been up until now.

New in this version: fixed problem handling files of very short duration.

Pros
Exactly does what it says.. It has the feature of merging mp3 files without changing quality and later they can be converted to AAC format for audiobooks. I used this software to convert my mp3 audiobooks into Apple Ipod compatible ones with bookmarking feature. The best part is separate files can be made into chapters.

Its user interface is a bit odd

Pros
Very easy to use application and for me it is a must have. I have almost a TB of audio books in MP3 format. MarkAble makes it very easy to transfer them to my different iPod devices. Usually I'll transfer 60-100 hours of duration.
Cons
My cons are nit-picking but as with all applications the more you use it the more you discover that it can do. I'd like to see better performance, as I understand performance is limited due to the interface with iTunes.

Pros
I've been using this programme for some time now but lost it recently owing to a major clitch with my Desktop. With help from the owners, I've managed a reinstall which is just as well.

Pros
Very easy to use. You can us it to rip CDs or you can process files on your PC. You can also drag and drop a picture. You also have a variety of ways to set chapter marks.
Cons
It uses iTunes to make the conversion so it takes a while.
Summary
I have been using Markable for over a year. Version 2 is a big improvement over version 1. I haven't found any other program that is as easy to use for creating audiobooks with chapters. The same author has a program called Chaptermaster which allows you to add chapters to existing audiobooks.

Pros
Simple to install. Intuitive to use. Find your MP3 files and it converts, combines, and tags the new file with chapters and the whole process is smooth and easy. Also imports audio CDs directly. Not a CPU hog.
Cons
It got "stuck" (rarely) and I had to restart the conversion. It has limited chapter title management. It does not remember the folder where music is stored so you have to browse every time. $15 is arguably pricey for a one-trick tool.
Summary
This product made it easy to convert MP3 audio books into IPOD audio books and that is very cool. My audiobooks no longer have 30 files. My IPOD remembers where I left off in each book. This tool makes is super easy to do these conversions.
