• A fun game with many flaws

  Pros

  This game has great unit animations. It uses real-time physics which is new and entertaining in the RTS genre. Masses of troopers die from artillery and their bodies fly up (not too high though). You can run over enemies and knock down buildings and trees with vehicles.

  Cons

  I encountered a bug where the unit voices constantly repeat. The voicing in the debriefing also repeats like it's getting remixed by a DJ. <p> <p>Enhancing graphics settings takes a hit on performance while not really improving the image quality by alot. <p> <p>This game is alot like Dawn of War with added features. One of the features is where you can zoom in and put yourself in the middle of the battle. However, unlike Rome: Total War where you can simply give several orders and then site back, Maelstrom encourages you to micro-manage your units. The units aren't very smart and need your assistance to tell them what to attack even if the enemy is visible. And having the ability to crush people with your vehicles also adds to the micro-gaming and defeats the purpose of zooming in and watching the battle. <p> <p>Another con is that you can't select many units at once yet you're likely to have a large army before a scenario is over.
