- DON'T INSTALL THE DEC 2014 VERSION ON A MAC
works like a charm for SSDs
hudsonw- Pros
- it works plain and simple
- Cons
- none whatsoever
- Summary
- The Apple 500GB Seagate 7200.12 HDD in my mid 2011 20.5" iMac failed its S.M.A.R.T. analyses so it was replaced with an OWC Mercury Electra 240GB 6G SSD. As expected, the hard drive fan speed was erratic, ranging from 1000 to 5000 rpm in seconds, and the fan noise was loud. I tried HDD Fan Control and smcFanControl but Macs Fan Control was the best solution because it allowed me to fix the fan speed to a constant 1098 RPM. Problem solved.
Horrid interface & controls
sgold_dotmac- Pros
- It does control the fans individually.
- Cons
- The control-element to change a fan speed only allows you to increment/decrement the speed in *1* RPM steps! Thus, for example, to change a fan's speed from 2000 RPM to 4000 RM requires you push the arrow 2000 times!
- Summary
- A good, useful program crippled by an unusable interface.
