LMMS is a free cross-platform alternative to commercial program like FL Studio, which allow you to produce music with your computer. This includes the creation of melodies and beats, the synthesis and mixing of sounds, and arranging of samples. LMMS can also connect to any of your MIDI devices and allow you to perform live, all in a user-friendly and modern interface.

All sounds for Free
DCOthers
Pros
My opinion similar to FL Studio. But FL Studio you can only get some sounds for free. You have to pay to get all the sounds. LMMS you get all the sounds for free.
Cons
I haven't used it much but so far I haven't found none.

caixamagica
Pros
- user friendly
- nice interface
- exports to wav and ogg formats
Cons
- crashes a lot, specially with Vestige plugin and VST instruments
- can't export to MIDI format *** THIS IS ESSENTIAL ***
- no undo when using the piano roll
- no ASIO support (but there is a workaround for this)
Summary
In my opinion, LMMS is not a finished product yet, after all these years of slow development.
Sadly a nearly dead project

Pros
Very interesting concepts, for example for...
editing
well arranged interface
already given instruments and effects
Cons
Only the CONCEPS are given, but nearly none of them works without bugs. Several concepts only show interesting approaches, but none of them is consequently realized.
Only very poor testing of new features, so sometimes new features break formerly well working functions.
Summary
As a conclusion: For people, who only want to experiment a little bit with sounds and rhythms and who are willing to forego several ideas of how to make their music it may be interesting. But... newies should keep in mind, that their efforts should concentrate on music instead of bugs. So try it out and decide on your own.
My opinion: LMMS long ago was a kind of hobby project. It grew up, but never lost this 'hobby charakter'. This means, that there is no team yet to work on it continuously with the consequence, that the developer(s) heavily depend on code and idea contributions, which - of course - they never have the time to test sufficiently. That's why I expect LMMS hardly will reach ever even a stable Beta state, sad but true.
LMMS is a great value!

Pros
LMMS is really easy to use. I have very little experience with DAWs (digital audio workstations) and with less than an hour of reading the Help Guide, I was able to figure out how to create a professional sounding song.
It's free! I've tried a few other free DAWs and this is the best one I've found. Please let me know if you've found a better one.
LMMS has a pretty good variety of sounds you can use to create music even if you can't play an instrument. A very basic knowledge of music Is necessary, but it's very basic (like knowing what a 16th note is or 4/4 time).
Cons
It has a lot of great sounds for creating pop, house, techno, etc. I like rock though, so I can't do much with the guitar sounds. Then again, you may just have to use some plugin I haven't figured out how to use yet. Like I said, I've really not read a great deal and yet, I've still been able to create some demos with great-sounding beat, bass, and sound-effects. Maybe I'll be able to figure out how to get a decent sounding guitar out of it.
Summary
It's free, has a lot of great features, has a small learning-curve, and is easy to use.
MALWARE IN DOWNLOAD !
SummersSapphire
Pros
NONE WHATSOEVER !
Cons
My antivirus detected the Babylon Toolbar in this software during download and subsequently I disconnected and aborted ..
Summary
I'd rather PAY for a programme WITHOUT malware rather than have a Freebie with Bundled Malware/Spyware ! Keep your Freebie !
Pure And Utter Garbage
southsidekre1
Pros
The Price Is Nice Other Than That Completely Useless
Cons
included instruments and samples sound like crap, VeSTige vst emulator is buggy and causes the program to crash
Summary
you get what you pay for with this program and it being free you aren't getting much, If you are serious about making music this program isn't for you. the sounds it produces are horrible, Vst support is sketchy at best, the vst emulator causes the program to crash, the only way to get any decent sounds from this program is with soundfonts or vst's, in conclusion your best be would be to download the demo of FL Studio, the only drawback to the FL demo is you can't save project files, but you can knock out a beat in about an hour and export it as a high quality wave file and get much better results than bothering with this LMMS rubbish
One of the Best DAWs Ever
WaterRabbit
Pros
Easy to use. Fun. Lots of features.
Cons
Can't think of any.
Summary
Try it, if you don't like it. Uninstall it and it will not cost you anything. But I love it, I use it on my laptop when I'm away from my main home rig.
Amazing if you how to use it
