Colorful, glowing lightning bugs.

Every summer evening, rising from the cool grass, or emerging from the trees, comes a swarm of tiny lights. Swirling about, in glowing motion, they search for their mates. They brightly blink in anticipation, hoping their display will bring them their goal. These magical insects, found mostly in warm, humid climates, are not "flies", but are actually beetles. The male firefly, or lightning bug, uses his bioluminescence to attract a mate. While the female, perched on a nearby tree branch, blinks back her approval. Lightning Bugz was inspired by these amazing creatures. Although the bioluminescent light produced by actual fireflies range from Green, Yellow, or Orange, I used some creative license and made a Red, and Blue species as well. Options include choosing colors, the number of fireflies, scale, speed, and blink pattern. You may use Lightning Bugz for FREE, but if you register for $5.00, you also get additional features such as, "View Desktop" mode, custom background color, or image, and additional colors.

A couple of the earlier reviews led me to pass this one up the first time I saw it listed, but I downloaded it later after visiting the Skyrocket Software web site. It may not be for everyone, but I like the graphics, including the visible bugs, the options for quantity and random lights, and especially the cricket soundtrack. It's like camping out at night, but without the humidity and the mosquitoes!

The screen saver only works on the bottom left side of the screen (perhaps 1024x768 worth of screen); it does work on both screens, just does not fill up the 20" cinema. I would gladly chip in $5.00 if the developer fixes this issue. Other than that, a great screen saver.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />Great job. This has fast become one of my favorites. One improvement could be in the sound. A seamless sound track would be nice. There is currently a pause in the sound track that is a little annoying. Overall this is great.
