Letterpress - Word Game for iOS

Letterpress Word Game lets you challenge your friends or other random players to see what kinds of words you can each find in a 5x5 grid. Take turns capturing tiles and squeezing out words until there are no more moves left to make, and then find out who tallied the most points.

Pros

Nice interface: This app's appearance is clean and minimalist, with the letter grid dominating most of the screen, and two happy faces at the top identifying your score and your opponent's score. To pick a word, just tap on the letters you want to use (in order), and you'll see the word spelled out above the grid. When you're satisfied with your word, tap "Submit" to send your move.

Game Center integration: Since this program works through Game Center, you can challenge your friends to play right from the app. That also means that you don't need a Facebook account to play against your friends, which is not an option in some apps.

Cons

Free limits: The free version of this game comes with a few limitations. For instance, you can't play more than two games at a time. In fact, even when your games have ended, you won't be able to start a new one until you've deleted the old ones completely. You also can't look back to see the list of words that has already been played without upgrading to the full version of the app for $1.99.

Bottom Line

Letterpress Word Game is a fun distraction, and one that you don't need a lot of time to play. You can just pick out a word on the go and get on with your life while your opponent studies the board. Anyone who loves word games will have fun with this app.
