This simple application lets you know if the Caps, Num, and Scroll locks are engaged without looking at your keyboard. KeyState is a small executable that adds a small panel with three icons, one for each lock, to your system tray. When a lock is in use, its icon is blue; when it's not, the icon is black. You can add a similar panel to your desktop that stays on top of other applications, and you can apply three levels of transparency to it. This program offers nothing more. No help file is included, but one isn't necessary. Should you have a frequent need to know the status of these three keys and dislike referring to the keyboard, this is the tool for you regardless of your skill level.
- Tiny memory footprint (2300 K)
- Perfect for my new netbook with no Caps/Num/Scroll Lock indicator
- no installation required, just set up a shortcut icon to the executable and put in your start menu or startup
Cons
Absolutely nothing!
Summary
I needed a piece of software exactly like this for my new netbook, which lacks any indicator lights.
This creates an easy-to-understand set of graphics down in the system tray, showing the on-off status of Caps/Num/Scroll Lock keys. Being rather short on RAM, it is a blessing to find something with such a small memory footprint, and so easy to start up and take down.
It is perfectly functional for what it is intended to do.
Thanks so much for having something like this available.
Display the state of your Caps Lock, Num Lock, and Scroll Lock keys on your system tray.Program shows state of the Caps lock, Num lock, Scroll lock keys in the tray and/or in small panel. It works in Windows 2000, XP. Panel has three levels of transparency. Program saves its location and transparency in system registry. It requires no installation, just unpack files in any folder.
