Subscription options: IPVanish offers monthly ($10), quarterly ($26.99), and annual ($77.99) subscriber rates. When you check IPVanish's subscription page, you may see a discounted price to entice you to sign up. A subscription covers two simultaneous connections on any supported device.

Pick a server across the globe: VPNs lets you connect to regions outside your own to skirt country-specific content restrictions. IPVanish has exits points in more than 60 regions, across five continents, with some cities offering multiple exit servers.

Speed bumps: VPNs can affect network quality, slowing throughput and bumping up ping. In informal tests, IPVanish's VPN had a slight hit on throughput when we streamed media. You can choose between TPC and UDP transmissions if you are more interested in the stability (TPC) or the speed (UDP) of your connection. When active, the app shows live charts of upload and download speeds.

Secure and private: IPVanish uses AES-256 encryption and open-source software OpenVPN to provide a private and secure link through a public network. To thwart network sensors from identifying VPN traffic (with the goal of blocking it), IPVanish offers the OpenVPN Scramble option to obscure traffic.

Personal information: IPVanish says it does not collect or log any VPN traffic and does not sell or rent users' personal information.

Cons

No trial version: VPN services aren't free to operate, so it makes sense that IPVanish charges for its VPN. However, there's no trial version of the app, which would let you check it out to see if it meets your needs before you subscribe.
