copy tracks off an iPod

A set of script that make easy to retrieve iPod tracks directly by iTunes.

The script "iPod tracks -> Desktop" is installed in iTunes script menu. This script will copy the selected tracks in iTunes (not Playlists) off your iPod on your Desktop, easily. If a file with the same name already exists in the destination then the user will be prompted. The way I found to get tracks copied is my small hack, due to this the script has been saved run-only. Sorry.

The script "iPod tracks -> Choose" is installed in iTunes script menu. This script will perform the same action than the previous, but will let you choose in which folder you want to copy the tracks selected in iTunes.

The script "iPod tracks -> encode" is installed in iTunes script menu. This script will convert the iPod selected track(s) according to the current iTunes conversion preferences, adding them to iTunes main library.

The script "iPod tracks -> iTunes Library" is installed in iTunes script menu. This script will add the iPod selected track(s) in iTunes main library, and to a library named according to iPod's name. If iTunes preferences are set to copy files as they are added to the library, then files will be phisically copied in iTunes Music folder.

The script "iPod tracks (Prefs)" is installed in iTunes script menu. This script will set up some preferences for the scripts listed above.

The script "Whole iPod Library -> Desktop" is installed in iTunes script menu. This script will copy the entire iPod library to the desktop, regardless of its internal organization in subfolders. The copy could take a long time, in any case thee user can stop it with the usual Command-. keystroke.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />This program installs a set of scripts in a new menu (visible upon the next launching of iTunes) which allows you to copy songs <b>off</b> of your iPod and <b>onto</b> your Mac. Recent updates to this program now allow songs with duplicate names to be copied off (Thank You), and a new script allows for copying from the iPod directly into the iTunes library (GREAT!).<br><br> This program (set of scripts, really) and a program called <b>Senuti</b>, are essential iPod tools. I keep them installed on my iPod so that I can export songs from my iPod onto any Mac I hook it up to. (Now, those of you who are going to whine about copying music, know that I use my iPod with my own recording studio and often wish to share <i>my own music</i> with others). Besides, I own three Mac's and this makes it a whole lot easier to copy "that song I just bought on the ITMS" to the other machines.<br><br> Great little Program... check out Senuti too...<br><br> my 2Ã‚Â¢<br> ~aaron

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />I found out that I had to change my ipod name based on the volume that the script recognised my ipod to be, which was my very old name. I wonder how it could pick this up, as my computer has been initialized previously. Anyway a great script and now I don't need another software to extract my "own" tracks. It would be perfect if it gave the folder name also so I don't need to create one everytime I copy out an album.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />This is the best ripper. You install the script, open itunes, select the music from the ipod while it's in manual mode, and then pull-down the itunes script menu and choose folder. works great on 10.3 and with AAC music.

This AS just makes it so simple to move a track from your iPod back to your Mac . . . great if you're trying to tidy up and backup tracks which you've deleted from your Mac.
