iPod.iTunes for Mac helps you detect and transfer missing songs, videos, podcasts, or playlists from your iPod to your Mac or the other way around, without deleting existing files on the target device/computer or creating duplicates. It comes with a convenient wizard that makes file transfer easy and a couple of other nice features. If you want file transfer capabilities that iTunes doesn't offer, this app is for you.

Once launched, iPod.iTunes quickly populates a list of missing items in the main section of the application interface, displaying basic information such as name, artist, album, size, and type. You can transfer files from your device to your computer or from your computer to your device, without creating duplicates. The application search bar lets you find specific items in no time, enabling you to select individual files for transfer more quickly. Also nice is that transferred files can be saved to any folder you choose. During our tests, the application operated smoothly and performed transfers without fail. However, if errors do occur, you will be glad to know that the application displays them in the activity log.

IPod.iTunes runs smoothly and performs its functions well. If you want to keep your iPod and Mac media libraries synced and organized, minimizing duplicates, you should definitely install this application. It will save you the trouble of having to manually go through your iPod or Mac media libraries to find missing or duplicate files. Do keep in mind that while this app is free to try, it will most likely skip about 50 percent of songs during sync. However, if you decide to register this software later on, it will transfer the remaining songs or playlists seamlessly without creating duplicates.

BEWARE - THIS PROGRAM IS A SCAM

I've never reviewed on CNET before, but I signed up just to tell people about this misleading app. After installing this program and waiting 2-3 hours for it to transfer my iPod files to iTunes, then came THE CATCH. You have to pay $30 if you want all your files to be transferred. Did they tell you this up front? Of course not. So I thought, "okay, let's take a look and see what they didn't transfer" -- and to my amazement, this program actually RANDOMLY withheld the transfer of parts of ALMOST ALL OF MY ALBUMS! So I have INCOMPLETE versions of almost all of my albums until I pay $30. It isn't that I resent having to pay for this service. What I resent is having this program mislead me, waste my time, and then ask for a relatively exorbitant fee -- and do it in such a manipulative way. Wow. I used to trust CNET. After this experience, I won't trust them so much anymore.

Apparently the latest version(s) force you to jailbreak your iPhone for this app to work. Still have my iPod Classic and will see if this application works with that device. I'm not going to jailbreak my iPhone.

None I can think of. The program has evolved from a bare-bones "move all" application to a very flexible one.

While it may be less intuitive than some apps, this is a dependable piece of software that has rescued my iPod contents, saving me hours if not days of reinstalling on more than one occasion.

If you haven't backed up your computer's hard drive and it crashes, iPod.iTunes allows you to restore the music to your computer from the iPod. I've needed it twice, and boy was I grateful for it. My daughter would have lost all her music otherwise

Summary
This is a great program for transferring music FROM your iPod to a hard drive. Magnificent for kids, who tend not to back up their computers. If your son's or daughter's hard drive crashes, they can put their music back onto their computer from their iPod.

I was hoping for identical copies of my iTunes library on my Mac, my iPod and my second Mac (which I use as a media player) . Instead I got duplicates and triplicates of music files on the second Mac, the library on my iPod was synched to the second Mac and refused to synch with the primary Mac. I had to do a full restore of the iPod and the iTunes library on the second Mac. Several hours lost. Stay away from this program.

Now I'm onto my 3 personal ipod and wouldn't consider using the std iTunes Sync to organize the variety of Macs I use at home and work.. iPod.iTunes keeps getting better and allows control that my iTunes just gets in the way of without wasting company Macs disk and backup. Been through G3,G4,G5, MacIntels, desktop and portables. With over 36,000 songs, audiobooks, podcasts, it takes a while to grind through the several dozen playlists that I keep centralized on my home central server. I always wait until its updated before considering an iTunes upgrade because its become a utility that makes the base iTunes more valuable.

I am very happy that I don't have to spend hours of time re-copying CD's and re-downloading my audiobooks. I found the product to be easy to use and well worth the $40 US cost.

I tried all the software to recover my library (I still had the files on my Mac BUT I wanted to recover everything that makes great an iTunes library: notations, last played, number of times played...) AND NOT any program worked as advertised! UNTIL I found iPod.iTunes that is! This great program recovered all my library from my iPod to my iTunes!!! So this is THE BEST!

I lost most of the music on my laptop. With iPod.iTunes I was easily able to recover the lost music from my iPod. It gives extremely good value for the money invested. Kudos to Cris.

I bought this as shareware (iPod2iTunes) 5 years ago and kept it up to date ever since. iPod-iTunes does just what it is designed to do ; move those tunes to and from my multiple ipods and Macs . I work at 3 locales and juggle 4 iPods, all legit as they are included in my itunes account list. I also keep a well structured music Library of 20,000+ with extra tags. So yeah update checking can take awhile since Apple went to USB only connection . The fire wire ones still scream. Its functions are so valuable , I now wait to update iTunes until after iPod-iTunes gets released for the new iTunes. The longest delay was only two weeks ( The guy was at the developers conference so couldn't get it out within a few days.). For Support, I'd sent an issue via email about 3 years ago on a major upgrade. Got appropriate response. (From a non-native english speaker,it was accurate, good and timely). Its a very simple utility to use so Documentation is nearly nil. Buy and enjoy

copyThing (formerly iPod.iTunes) does real add-synchronization, even in two directions if desired. copyThing evaluates the source for songs, podcasts, videos and/or playlists that are not in the target and only adds these seamlessly, avoiding duplicates, saving your time. Unlike iTunes' "auto update/sync" function copyThing generally does not delete content in the target. copyThing can also transfer song dependend data like "My Rating", "Last Played", "Play Count", and album artwork.
