An enjoyable game that has some bugs

Pros
-Allows you to create a player and play as them through their career, from the minor leagues all the way to the majors. -Options to invent workout schedule to improve your overall stats and push your peak stats beyond the original maximum you had when you made the player. -Quite a few different equipment pieces with different bonuses and drawbacks. -Free agency can be fun as you make different teams compete with offering you various contracts. -Good replay value, lots of difficulty settings and different strategies to try out.
Cons
-The items are kind of unrealistic. "Magical bats" have various attributes that can make a huge difference in how you perform as a player. -Instructions are a bit lacking. The game is rather complex and difficult if you don't go to the ITP section of the OOTP forums to read the walkthroughs and workouts suggestions listed. -A minor (but annoying bug)... if you start a new career after your player retires, you start on the day of their retirement. The game adds another draft on the day of that player's retirement, rather than having the game move forward to the next draft for you to make a new player. -Stats are sometimes unrealistic, especially with pitchers. You'll find your pitchers never walk anyone during their peaks. Even the best control pitchers average at least 1 walk per 9 innings.
Summary
This is an enjoyable game that I've had fun with since 2005. I disagree with the negative reviews posted from years ago. This isn't for everyone, but if you're okay without live-action graphics, you will find an enjoyable game. However, I believe it's only $10 on the OOTP website, rather than $19.99 as they show on Download.

Pros
I like the concept. I have been trying to make a game like this for a while, and they have finally done it. It is decent for a first-release.
Cons
oh boy. Well, it's not worth 20 bucks i'll tell you that. First of all, they have white text against a light background, it's like they're secretly trying to make the world go blind!<p>second, right now I am simulating one week...It has taken about 7 minutes to simulate 5 days, and I have the whole rest of the season to go! Need to speed that up A LOT.<p>If it weren't for the slow simulation time, I might be able to live with this game. But that and the fact that it's more like those social-networking rpgs, except in this case you can go to bars and pick up COMPUTER women...... uhhhhhhhh........ yea. i went to a bar and picked up a woman.... great.... i thought this was a baseball game....<p>my final beef is the fact that the cost of equipment is blown WAY out of proportion. a $5,000,000 bat?!?!? I dont care HOW BIG that sweet spot is, no bat is realistically going to cost FIVE MILLION BUCKS! and i haven't even UNLOCKED the other bats.....this is very unrealistic, they should have never even touched the equipment stuff....<p>To summarize, I would not suggest buying this game right now. Wait for a better, improved version to come out. You can try out the demo, I think you'll get sick of it by the time the 14-day trial runs out. They made a good start, but as with all new releases, it's going to take some work before it is worth the money.

Pros
There is a lot of detail here, and the game designers were obviously aware of baseball.
Cons
This is not an arcade style game. You can make decisions during games, but there is very little feedback on what you might be doing wrong. The game uses white text on a black-and-white background. It has a stylish look, but you can't read the text in the information boxes. I had so much trouble reading the boxes I couldn't see any point in continuing the game. I mean that literally-- I couldn't SEE the text I needed to read to find out what I was supposed to do.
