  I rely on IR to produce ISO backups; it works fast, never fails, and is a joy to use. It belongs to the set of essential programs on all the laptops I work with.

  - No DVD encoding. i.e. you can't burn DVDs that will play in a DVD player.

  As functional as any of the burning software that asks for money. Not only is it free, but it works.... all the time. As a help desk admin I have used this software on many different machines with various hardware configurations and numerous operating systems and infrarecorder never fails. My personal favorite part of this program is that it is lightweight. Click it and it opens. No splash screen and no loading a bunch of plug-ins or add-ons that you don't need to deal with. It's fast, functional and free. Everything that software should be, and it supports the open source community which is good for different reasons. I suspect people who give bad ratings to this are very inept. Most of the things they describe are virus like behavior which was likely present on their machine before they began using infrarecorder. On all the different types of machines I have used it on this program has never prompted any of the behavior they describe nor has it ever been detected as malware even as a Type I error (false positive). I recommend this program highly, as pretty much all other options for disc burning ask for money, take forever to load, and consume more system resources than they should.

  Your desktop icons will go away. You'll have to go to view to restore them, then they'll go away each time infrarecorder is activated. Just too much trouble.

• Basic and Effective - What More Do I Need?!

  Burning a data CD/DVD or copying a disk is why I need a product like this. It does a great job for me.

  On rare occasions, the application will hang and require system reboot.

  I have not encountered any issues or problems on multiple installs using multiple computers.

  Summary

  I am a computer tech with 18 years in the field. InfraRecorder is easier to use then other programs I have used, it has always installed smoothly, read every Drive I have thrown at it and it has always worked.

  None I can see. Seems the same as DeepBurner.

  Cons

  Can not burn a DVD movie. Can't even figure out how. When I try it just keeps failing. Also when I downloaded the program it downloaded & installed SEVERAL other programs I did not want! Now I have to figure out how to get rid of them too.

  Summary

  My Avast anti-virus program even found a maleware program in it when downloading. I would be very leery of downloading this.

  Pros

  It seems to work, but how would I know whether or not I like it for REAL use--I can't use it. I say put a 10-day or a 2-day limit on these things. If one can't access the full functionality, he can't know if he'll really like the full functionality.

  Cons

  It's not right to have a piece of software listed as "Free," much less called "The Free Version" when its basic functionality is not at all free. I don't even care that it's not free--I just want to try out a REAL product before I buy anything.
