Use Iconoid to hide your desktop icons when your cursor is not on the desktop so that you can see your desktop wallpaper. Also, make your desktop icon backgrounds transparent or change the color of the text or background. Save and restore icon positions and Hide windows quickly. Iconoid can be hidden or it can live in the system tray. Other features as well. Very customizable. Not resource intensive. Version 3.8.5 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, and bug fixes.

Very easy to use.
Cons
Must start application for your settings to take effect. Therefore you should select it to run and hide itself automatically upon starting Windows.

I like this program It is simple to use and adds the much needed functionality of being able to make to the text background of your desktop icons any solid color of your choice. this is extremely useful if you have a busy picture set as your desktop. Thank you Iconoid!

Small, undemanding, clean,.. some unique practical functions, some funny, harmless functions and it never argue with you. It isn?t about the money either; it?s free, but priceless to me...

It?s a bit shy. I scavenged lots off forums to find a way for my 64bit Vista icons to remember their place in life? lots off wannabe and complicated solutions to find, but not Iconoid? Well don?t be varied, I?ll putt inn a good word for you!

I use my desktop actively, and my icons are sort off categorized by their position relative to the four corners? I know! But it works for me! With multiple computers, Remote Desktop Connections and a full HD big screen TV. I often have to change resolution, and all my carefully placed icons are a mess! But no more! ? Thanks to this unpretentious, resource-modest, funny little app. Not even big enough to carry a little virus with it. Thanks!

Iconoid is perfect for maintaining a tidy, attractive desktop and/or concealing your icons and shortcuts from nosy people. <p>The only item displayed on my desktop is a Yahoo! Weather Widget.

i kind of hate having all those icons on top of my desktop images, but at the same time i know its sometimes useful and time-saving to have all of them there. Finally, a solution, and free! no mess on install, no bugs, no spyware. just enjoy.

It's neat that this program will make your desktop icons disappear, allowing you to see your wallpaper without the obstruction. The absolute coolest function has to be watching them dance around the screen or swapping positions, a function avalable from the system tray icon. It also allows you to define a "hotspot"; moving the cursor here will close all open windows, similar to a "boss key".
