• Lovely program. Suits all my needs.

  Pros

  I've been with HuMo-gen for a year or two now and love it. All genealogy features you might want, with good reports and pretty charts. Nice layout and skins to choose from. Quite easy to install on the web and once installed works out-of-the-box. You don't need to be a computer wiz. The help forum is great. The programmers themselves are online frequently, so you get swift response for any request. If you follow the forum you see that requests for new features from users are very quickly implemented, so the program is growing all the time. I particularly like the excellent source system, the merge system and the relationship calculator. I know a bit of programming (not professional!) and since the code is very straightforward it is easy to make your own adjustments. A year ago or so the code (that originally had a lot of Dutch in it) was totally changed to English so that anyone with some programming knowledge can work with it if he/she chooses to do so.

  Cons

  I haven't really found any yet. It offers all the features you would expect from an online genealogy program and in my eyes it is more user-friendly and faster than other similar programs.

  Summary

  I think I basically summed it up under "Pros" above, so I won't repeat that. I recommend it to anyone who wants an easily accessible and user-friendly genealogy site!

  Pros

  A wide range of reports, charts and genealogy tools. Easy installation. Runs smoothly without bugs. Nice skins. Neat programming that makes it easy to change code to my liking. Support forum. Frequent new versions with new additions.

  Cons

  The skins are a nice addition, though I feel the program could be even more streamlined. (JQuery??). This doesn't take away though from its many assets.

  Summary

  Strongly recommended! I posted a review here 2 years ago for a much earlier version. Already then I liked humogen a lot, but since then it has come a long way ahead, with many more reports and charts and a very intuitive interface. I am definitely going to stick with it!

  Works flawlessly, nice layout with many skins. All reports and charts one could want. Quite easy to install on the server. I'm using the program for many years to my fullest satisfaction. Humogen has a great support forum that assists everyone.

  Cons

  None whatsoever. In all the years I have been using the program I never encountered any bugs or flaws. To the contrary, the humo-gen support team is extremely helpful in accommodating the users

  Summary

  I have been very satisfied with the product for several years now. I immediately install each new version with new items. I do not at all understand the person who wrote here that the program has bugs. In all the years I have used humo-gen and have followed the support forum, I have never encountered people who complained about bugs. To the contrary, the humo-gen team is always open to suggestions to add new features and accommodate special needs. In short, I find it a fantastic program to share my genealogy data with my family and friends.

  full of programming errors - I know I'm a bigot but why Dutch as default language user language and half internal code in Dutch.

  Would like to get through this and make it work - and I do know PHP/MySQL quite well but when errors come up in javascript compressed file - yuck. I'll let you and the developer know if I get this working and maybe developer can rerelease with my efforts included. Unless you speak Dutch you will never get very far. I've found at least 15 errors in the coding - mostly assumptions that are not valid or variables not instantiated before reference and cause logic to fail. If this was written by an amateur - well OK, if by an IT professional - shame on you. I take back my offer to clean this up and resubmit - I DON'T speak or read Dutch and would have to go over every line of code and translate to figure out what the heck this guy is trying to do.

  Pros

  Customizable, speedy and validated code and CSS, lots of features, charts, reports and a very good helpful community

  Maybe the admin-section could use some more logical indexing, but that's all I can think of

  When you want to have your family-tree online this is really the best way to do it. There's a forum, a wiki and lots of helpful people that guide you through your problems, if any. The basic install is a bit very no-nonsense but you can make your own stylesheet and set it as default or let a cookie remember your choice. Adding people can be done online or local, you can upload gedcom-files, and download them as well. Everything you think of is possible and if not available they will make sure it will be in the near future.

  Pros

  I used version 3.2 before and really liked it, and this new version 4.1 is just fantastic. I use humogen now also for editing - makes life so much easier. Just installed the new version a week ago and already users are commenting how nice it looks.

  Pros

  Cute program. Doesn't look very sophisticated at first glance, but does a great job. I got thru the installation process without too much trouble and got the site running. Might stick with this. I'm going to change the outlay a bit for my needs.

  Cons

  The PHP source code uses some Dutch (??) variable names, which makes it somewhat harder to follow the coding, but then again... most of us never need to look at the source code anyway.

  Summary

  Neat program. Lots of useful features and amazing what can be done with just over 200 KB of code! I like the flexibility.

  Pros

  Very easy installation. User-friendly both for computer illiterate persons as myself and for visitors. Nice reports that are created on the spot by the users. New genealogical data is easily updated. Good manual.

  So far I haven't found any yet.

  Summary

  Really nice program. I have been using it for a few months now (downloaded it from the website - sorry Cnet...). Recommendable. It's so easy to install - so worth giving it a try.

  Pros

  Was very easy to install on the server. Copied the folder, adjusted 3 settings for my database, uploaded and imported the gedcom, and my website was ready! The best thing is any user can create reports for any person in the database in 4 languages.

  Cons

  It's not as fancy as some commercial programs, but it does all I want. Besides you can change anything you want in the CSS files. I chose a different background.

  Summary

  What I like about Humogen is that it's a very small lightweight program, but has great dynamic functionality. It may not have the fancy looks of some commercial programs, but it is very easy to install and creates great reports. The best thing is that I don't have to make my own descendant and ancestor reports and upload them. Just one gedcom file and people that visit my site can create their own reports.
