Actually works
whackit2- Pros
- Cons
- Summary
- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I have had this software for a two days. While it's still a clunky HP windows knockoff... it actually works! The scanner remains accesible, no more unplug restart BS. Scans into iphoto without a hitch (after creating path) works in photoshop... all other featrures seem to work fine. This is a MUST upgrade as it actually makes my 6110 useful for the first time. I'm glad it came, I was about to chuck tghis thing. Only 3 stars BC HP support couldn't suck more... one year to address a basic functionality bug... c'mon.
HP 6100 OfficeJet Program Review
Chester Henry- Pros
- Cons
- Summary
- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
REVIEW: Had problems downloading this in Safari, best to download in IE. Program has the look and feel of the PC version. I had no problems with the installation. It recongnized the HP 6100 withg solid interfaces and windows immediately upon installation. I did a first time scan as soon as it was finished with good results. The program is a bit complicated if you do not have a book or a lot of patience. But it has done everythng i expected it to being that this was it or nothing. All programs can be better and with MAC i find my self desperate to find any printer that is recongized immedlately and actual work and thankful any software that meets the majority of its claims. The OS system used was 10.3.7. This may have made a difference in the results i had being that this download has received very attacking reviews. If you have a HP 6110 and you have the latest software and you just by chance need it to do more than just be a printer, than this is the only game in town. FOR YOU INFO: This is a very delicate printer. Do not jar it to hard or cause the scanner part to fall back away from the catches used in the under carriage to prevent you from opening it to high. They did that for a reason. if you do let it fall back or cause the scanner or entire printer to be serverly jarred you may through the distrubing of the scanner disable the whole printer and HP will only take your $30.00 to teil you it is a hardware problem; which will be evident. I brought the scanner with out any instructions or books so i cannot give a sound review on the documentation. There may be a PDF some where in cyberspace that can be downloaded to hekp those in my condition.
No Duplex Printing With Panther!

- Summary
- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
It can't be true! Still no duplex printing support with 10.3.2. Yes, I used hp uninstaller before installing new driver. If I could give minus ratings, I'd do it. WHAT A SHAME, HP!
Bug fixes? What bug fixes?
TC_- Pros
- Cons
- Summary
- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I didn't notice any of the claimed bug fixes in this version. In fact, the three biggest bugs still remain: 1. When I come home and plug my laptop into the 6100, most of the time, the software cant see the scanner unless I turn the scanner off and then on again after connecting. Same in 6.0.7 and 6.3.4. 2. If you have both an HP OfficeJet 6100 and HP LaserJet1200 (or similar printer), the HP Communications background app that is vital for scanning on the 6100 will still interfere with printing to the 1200 - you need to kill the HP Communications either from the command line or from an AppleScript available from HP. Why HP has not resolved a known incompatibility between two of their own products is beyond me. 3. I guess that this isn't really a bug, it's a lack of a feature, but: Scanning on the 6100 still is not Image Capture-compatible, which means that you can't scan directly into Word X, OmniPage X, or most other programs. On top of that, the installation also did something to the drivers for my 1200. I had to delete the 1200 in the Printer Setup and then reinstall - and when I reinstalled it, I had to locate the printer description file manually. Not too difficult for me, but it might be for someone else, and annoying either way. The only changes I noticed were interface changes to the HP Director, which aren't necessarily better or worse, just different. My opinion of the software has not changed from version 6.0.7...this is still 2-star software for 4-star hardware. I bet that the 6100 is a much better unit if you're using Windows. If Apple is going to bed with HP and making iPods for them, you think they could demand decent drivers as a quid pro quo.
