Though this program contains basic information about certain medicinal plants, you'll find some limitations hamper its usefulness. Herbs' colorful interface is decked out with 12 large buttons and each one launches a new window, which can quickly clutter up your Taskbar and limits ease of navigation between areas. Herbs' database has more than 400 plants, but the trial version limits the number that can be viewed. For each plant, botanical and alternative names are listed. In most cases, the program identifies the part of the plant used and dosage, and offers a brief description. However, it doesn't identify what form (dried, fresh, or powdered) should be used for its recommended dosage. You won't be able to view pictures, create your own database, or look up plants by use with the trial version; these features are locked. Slightly awkward to use, this program provides only limited information about the medical applications of certain herbs and plants.

Get information on 540 herbs and their traditional uses.
Herbs Software lists 540+ herbs and their actions. The shareware version includes full listing information for 36 herbs (all beginning with the letter A), and you can look up available Botanical, English, German, French, Chinese and Sanskrit (Ayurvedic) names for all herbs in the database. The shareware version also includes introductory text files. Registration provides full access to all 540+ listings with print function. Poisonous herbs carry a warning and known side. effects are listed. Also included: 138 herbal photos, phytochemical information, added text files, and the 'Herbal Actions' section where herbs are listed by their traditional uses (from Acne to Wound Care). Herbal actions as approved by the "German Commission E Monographs" also listed. Registration includes free program upgrades.
