  HeidiSQL knocks the spots off SQL Management studio. It's faster, easier to use and understand. I really like how you can just edit the data in the table without having to write a query...and after you've done it Heidi shows you the query it used. In fact every action in Heidi is displayed so you can see the SQL being used - very useful for learning new commands. I've been using it for years and it just gets better and better. When my company forced us all onto Microsoft SQL Management studio I was amazed by how clunky and time-consuming everything was in comparison...but for some poor souls it's all they know!

  * Clear and intuitive interface, * Named pipe support (toad has a bug) * Compatible with SQL Server and MySql * Very light: ~ 8 MB

  Cons

  * lack of support for Oracle
