Heartline Study for iOS

Heartline is a research study exploring how everyday technology like the iPhone and Apple Watch can enable earlier detection of atrial fibrillation (AFib), a leading cause of stroke. People 65+ with and without an existing AFib diagnosis may be eligible.

This app integrates with the Apple Health app.

*Not all participants will receive monetary rewards. Reward amount is dependent on completion of study-related activities, group assignment, and length of study participation. See study website for details.

Am I eligible to participate?

You can check your eligibility in the Heartline app. You will need to**:

Be age 65 or older

Be a resident of the United States for the duration of the study

Own or purchase an iPhone 6s or later, with iOS 12.2 or later

Have Original Medicare, sometimes called Traditional Medicare

What technology do I need to participate?

You must own or purchase an iPhone 6s or later, with iOS 12.2 or later

After enrolling, you may be asked to get an Apple Watch Series 5 or later. Youll be offered two options: purchase an Apple Watch or get one on loan and return it when your participation in the study ends. Johnson & Johnson and Apple are committed to ensuring that participation in the study is not limited by financial need.

If you already own an Apple Watch Series 1 or later, you may be eligible to join the study as well, with certain restrictions.
