- charge nuvi (i used wall plug), install software, update software, reboot. Open express, add a device, turn on nuvi and plug into usb. Once it is found you are all set. You might have to plug and unplug a couple of times for it to find. When you go to update hit view details and download the maps to your pc as it is too big and will sit for 1:27 downloading otherwise. I installed all other updates to the nuvi. Please keep in mind the maps are about 6gb of data so I stored mine on the pc and micro sd card.

- After the download of the update had started, the system updated to the latest version. Switched it off and on as requested the manipulate starts and then nothing happens for hours until a message appears 'update failed'. The webupdater under XP is even better, message there is 'unexpected error', remarkable that all the other errors are expected. It could be as simple as out with the old - in with the new, or put more memory in like a SDcard for free if the error can't be fixed.

- Everything. It doesn't check if there's free space on the device before making you wait hours for a download before telling you. It doesn't check if there's free space on the HOST before making you wait hours for a download before telling you. When it errors out it just says "failed to update". thanks for the tip. And it doesn't consistently remove the old software before installing the new one so it often tells you it's out of space. Stupid, horrible software that a high school java class could top.

- Why oh why would I need a 148MB bit of software to upload tracks form my GPS? Once installed it didn't find my device. Just gave up in the end because life's too short. I use my android phone now with the ViewRanger app.

Virus Vehicle??

- I recently was infected with viruses/malware and when I researched I learned that Garmin Express was the vehicle for these infections. I checked my system and sure enough the virus/malware and the Garmin Express show to all be installed on same day and time. This happened behind my back. Removing Garmin Express until all these issues are addressed.

- I've been using Garmin GPS for years on both my cars and my boats but this software issue may be the reason why I don't buy Garmin again.
