Gamestudio/A8 is the world's fastest authoring system for interactive 2D and 3D applications - for instance, computer games or test and simulation software. It offers three levels of access in one single package: Beginner: Click together computer games from pre-assembled game templates. A simple action or car racing game can be built in a few hours this way. Advanced: Do our tutorial and create commercial quality applications with the easy and effective lite-C scripting language. Use the included level and model editors to create the artwork for your project. Programmer: Include the A8 engine into your software using your preferred language - C++, C#, or Delphi. Create levels and models in the FBX format with high-end editors such as MAX or MAYA. Many tutorials introduce you into game programming. The monthly AUM magazine offers workshops, plug and play games, and a regular contest. And the AU resource site is a great spot for finding thousands of free models, levels, textures, and other resources that can be used in your Gamestudio applications.

Pros
Very easy scripting. A7 engine is the fastest of all game development systems, can render 60,000 objects with no frame rate problems.
Cons
Model editor is very simple, better edit your model with MAX or MAYA and import it.

What I like best is the ease of use, especially for casual games.

This concept is just great. I love this. Multi-genre enabled, optional 3D/2D, flash coding, and pixelated imaging! Who could ask for more? This is such a great program!
Cons
It has multi-programmed stages so it's gonna be a real pain switching programs every time I want to change some coding or model an object. Also, it looks pretty confusing at the start, but I know I'll get the hang of it. Overall, it's a decent program.

This software contains all you need for creating or programming games, in a very uncomplicated and straightforward way. Especially the tutorials about game programming and shader programming give very good introductions to a beginner. First do the tutorial and then begin to create a 3D game right away.

New version has support for the space navigator device, a 3D pointing device like a joystick on steroids. Also the new engine features are very good!

Gamestuudio has a very logical, easy to understand system of tools - level editor, model editor, script editor, and engine. It has also a system for clicking a game together from components without programming.<p>It comes with a great step by step tutorial into game programming. I had a programming course in school but at that time I didn't really get it. The gamestudio tutorial is much better than the course I had in school!<p>If you were frustrated by other engines, like me, this is the right system for you. There is plenty of documentation and tutorials, and the community is very helpful.<p>The engine and script language is free, only the version with the level editor must be paid ($99).
