FoodForwardSA for Android

FoodForwardSA is a mobile application designed to streamline the process of redistributing surplus food from retailers to vetted charities in South Africa. It facilitates real-time collection alerts, digital pickup codes, and geo-mapping features that connect local organizations with nearby retail outlets. This app is integral to FoodForward SA’s Virtual FoodBanking model, ensuring that registered beneficiary organizations can efficiently access food supplies, thereby addressing food insecurity in their communities.

The application serves as a logistics platform that notifies charities about available surplus food and provides them with the necessary authorization codes for secure pickups. Its features include automated tonnage reporting and a web/USSD fallback option for organizations with limited connectivity. By integrating retail partners and offering low-tech access paths, FoodForwardSA enhances the efficiency of food recovery efforts, making it easier for community kitchens and meal providers to respond quickly to food donation opportunities.
